My guess, ultimately what might be planned is to build a couple of buildings on that segment/lot

If you look at the official Hudson Yards map, related has an outline of building footprints on that very end of the High Line segment.

To my knowledge, presently I’m pretty sure there is no structures on that site as it's an open lot for for parking for convention buses and trucks. I’m not sure tbh.

Anyway, my assumption is eventually Related may purchase that site to expand and make it as an extension to phase 2 like they did with the 55 and 55 Hudson site and build towers along those imaginary footprints.

I hope they do. Maybe a further "step down" building between the West Office Tower and Javits. A 500 footer would slot nicely in there.

My best case scenario would be to stretch the end of the High Line via concourse (like the one at 5 Manhattan West or the Spur through 10 HY) and either step down to street level at 34th and 11th Ave, or bridge over it and connect somehow to Hudson Blvd.

Fantastic renders! This is what I've been waiting for, a skyscraper with modernized vintage forms. My favourite tower in the Hundson Yards by far!
It screams Mad Men, especially with these renders:

Wowza. I gotta admit, this building has the sex. It really goes to show how big of a difference the details make.

This will be an amazing viewing corridor. On the left you'll have the beautiful Girasole and, if we're lucky, the iconic Hudson Spire.

I'm wondering when we'll see a design that actually incorporates the 7 train vent. At the very least, I'd say it's this big:

hm. It looks nice from the high line. The base is a bit of a disappointment imo. Though that's because they had to follow up this:

I thought that feaking vent was located on 3 Hudson Blvd site. No??

Solgoldberg posted this over at the 3 Hudson Blvd thread.

isn't that the building (vent station) in the bottom left it?? If not, does someone have a pic of it and its location??

That's it, but that's the 55 HY plot -- with the train tracks directly out of sight off the bottom of the page -- 33rd street is in the foreground with the two white vans next to the vent building. 3 Hudson Blvd is the next plot beyond, across 34th street.

Yep, that's the very one. Thanks Hudson11 for posting those old Extell renders for "One Hudson Yards." It's funny that they took the time to factor in the vent (and figure out how best to mask it), but Related has not, even though Related is arguably 10x closer to actually building a tower here than Extell ever was.

I mean, they'll probably just paint it black. The industrial-ness of it, and the grid pattern will probably mesh fine with Related's tower.

Got ya! I got confused with the location. Do they plan to make that building smaller or maybe clad it as the same as 55 Hudson??

Anyway, it's on the south side on a a one way (narrow) street on 33rd that would be blocked by 35 Hudson Yards, so they picked the best location to have it I guess.

I am curious though how it'll factor in to the construction of the building. The Extell design seems to actually cantilever over the vent, but presumably they built it with enough foundational strength to be incorporated into the tower itself.

Hopefully they'll just reclad it in the style of the tower. I would prefer they just demolish the thing and build another one elsewhere.

I know how they will be dealing with that air vent. It will be enclosed within the towers base.

Ohh, clever if that's how they wind up doing it. It's just a bummer about all that wasted potential ground floor retail.

There are actually 2 vents. The bigger one is at 55 HY.

Yea me to Biz! I don't see anyway around it. The models and the renderings do not show the vent building and they are huge. I think KPF and Related plan to strip the fašade of the existing building to enclose and incorporate with new structure of 55 Hudson Yards.

Hope Y'all had a good memorial weekend!

Revealed: 55 Hudson Yards

Read more:

Quote:
While 55 Hudson Yards will share the modern feel of surrounding buildings, the skyscraper’s exterior may present a contrast to the general aesthetic along Hudson Boulevard. Metalwork will dominate the skin, presenting a decided departure from larger towers nearby; given the relatively short height of 55 Hudson Yards, an iconic facade will be necessary if Related intends for the structure to be noticed.
