Didn't they already incorporate a foundation into the new station?

At the MTA board committee meetings this week, officials showed a preview of the 34 St-Hudson Yards station, due to open later this spring. The image above shows the station exterior, entrance canopy and surrounding park, and the ventilation building, which will be surrounded by 55 Hudson Yards, a 51-story office tower outlined in yellow. To support the tower, two rows of five caissons are being sunk in the area adjacent to the ventilation building, six of which will be sunk between the two subterranean escalator banks that lead to the station’s mezzanine. They certainly excavated the site down to bedrock and then backfilled it. IIRC they also built permanent-seeming retaining walls for SOE.
The vertical_Gotham post above provides some detail regarding the current construction (besides the obvious re-excavation)

The station cavern itself is deep (and underneath 11th Ave, which itself is a viaduct in this area), so the escalators/stairs are long and start down from the upper mezz under Hudson Park Boulevard.

Looking up & east, the opposite compass direction of the other photos below

NY MTA, 7 Line Extension pdf created 3-23-2015

And here's an older MTA photo showing the top (black holes) of the two escalator/stairway shafts, with the site excavated and portions of the rataining wall under the 11th Ave viaduct removed:

and then in May2012:

And then a ~street level photo from the HNY FB page dated March16, still looking west-ish & underneath the 11th Ave viaduct:

AND here's the "Final Design Configuration" from the 2006 PLAN. "Site J" is relevant to the current 55 HY, the escalator/stairways are the two sets of dashed orange lines:

Yes.
Yeah: that's at least one caisson drill operating at the re-excavated site.

David Boies' venerable law firm eyes move to Hudson Yards

Boies Schiller & Flexner is in negotiations to leave midtown Manhattan for a new 51-story far West Side tower being built by Mitsui Fudosan, the Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group.

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...o-hudson-yards

Quote:
The law firm co-founded by the high-profile trial attorney David Boies is in talks to become the first tenant to sign on to a new Hudson Yards office tower on the far West Side of Manhattan.

Boies Schiller & Flexner is negotiating to take about 100,000 square feet at 55 Hudson Yards, a 51-story, 1.3 million-square-foot building at the corner of West 33rd Street and 11th Avenue that began rising earlier this year. The law firm will relocate from its current Manhattan headquarters at 575 Lexington Ave., where, according to sources, it occupies about 150,000 square feet. Sources said the firm is mulling a move in part because 55 Hudson Yards' state-of-the-art space will allow it to cram its staff into less square footage—the firm would downsize by about 50%.

The building, which is being developed by a partnership between Japanese real estate company Mitsui Fudosan, the Related Cos. and Oxford Properties Group, is the third tower to rise at Hudson Yards. Separately, Related and Oxford are in the process of erecting two other commercial buildings, 10 and 30 Hudson Yards, which will be anchored by Coach and Time Warner, respectively. Related and Oxford are also completing work to deck over the active rail yards below the site and construct a huge retail mall, a performing arts center--to be known as the Culture Shed--and public space.

If Boies Schiller & Flexner decides to relocate there, it would be the second law firm to recently make a major commitment to the neighborhood. Earlier this month, Brookfield Office Properties signed a 550,000-square-foot lease with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. That law firm will anchor 1 Manhattan West, a new, 2.1 million-square-foot office skyscraper that Brookfield will build as part of its Manhattan West complex project, a block east of Related’s Hudson Yards towers.

This design is pure international class, I think it adds more the the area than another bland glassy supertall would.

It has some very nice subtle detailing. It's probably the most detailed tower in the cluster.

This afternoon, I had a glimpse through the fence.
Seems the finished re-excavation and continue with foundation.
I really like this tower i can't wait to see it finished.

This is the very definition of a great box. The jet black cladding is a good contrast to the rest of the complex.

That latest render has two unexpected elements.

A sliver of a neighboring building in the foreground. It's refreshing that Related cares to acknowledge the competition. Developers rarely do (for understandable reasons).

More interestingly, is that a park between 55 HY and the waterfront? That lot does seem to lay outside the HY special development area (per VG's super useful development map). Is it not in play?
