A 106-story tower, but only at 1100 ft?

Um he clearly posted it in the wrong thread, that was for a Korean tower obviously since the article was in Korean.

This building is not 106 floors.

The diagrams released for this tower do have 106 floors though.

hmm my mistake didn't see two pages back but it probably won't be 106 real floors unless they're really tiny floors. High ceilings seem to be in these days.

It's affordable housing, so it won't be double height floors like ultra luxury residential towers use.

Although it will have an affordable component and it won't be built for the billionaire crowd, there's no way this tower will be a cheap place to live in. It'll probably be priced similarly to the silver towers nearby...or more expensive.

Define 'affordable' in this context.

Houses that millionaires can afford, rather than billionaires.

Good news! I'm glad that Silverstein wants to build big and tall here. A bulky supertall residential tower with 106 floors would be epic.

I do think that there will be a couple of hundred units for far under millionaire status... perhaps affordable in this context is more $75,000-150,000 and not truly "affordable" housing which still needs to be addressed but the affordable context is why it's being embraced by otherwise hard core community activists on board with this ... there are going to be to many floors and smaller units than all those ritzy condos, many glamorous units probably higher up but this development differs from the usual solely highest of high end crap. (crap not meaning the amenities, lol but the fawning pampering of billionaires and the out of touch!

In NY, affordable housing programs are rentals -- not units that one buys. The overwhelming majority of Manhattan residents rent and don't own.

I awkwardly stated my point, sorry... but the apartments in this development would be rental, not condo. Affordable in this context, like I mentioned would likely be relative but I certainly don't think it means more than $75,000-150,000 in income for its residents. Only 250 or so units will be affordable anyway, with hundreds of units priced at $5,000-10,000 + per month for high end units. I doubt anything here is less than $2,500-3,000 a month though even in the affordable part of the development.

Kinda like John Hancock Center, ~same height, ~same number of floors and also affordable housing. ( well, starting from $200K but still, it's affordable for much more people )

$200K is very affordable, if not cheap.

Some people seem to think "affordable" means "affordable to anyone". Nope, you're not gonna afford an apartment in a supertall in Manhattan while on social welfare.
