WTC Transportation Hub | Oculus & Transit Hall
![]() I'm in need to produce a scale model of Calatrava's hub in order to understand every aspect and difficulty I can encounter during the computer modeling process I'll experience in a couple of weeks.Model is based on prints and accurate to a 1/2 mm. Constructive criticism is welcomed. B2 Transit Hall Columns and retail walls. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Looking nice so far.
![]() Btw, I hope you don't mind me asking - do you earn money with creating renders and virtual models or is it just some leisure time activity you enjoy?

No, it was painted by Calatrava himself. ![]() Back to the model, progress is going on pretty well on level B2. B2 is marked in yellow in the section plan below. From lowest floor to the top of the highest rafter, the model willl be 9.6" (24.6cm) tall.

The Transportation Hub is connected to the adjacent Towers 2 and 3. Here, tower 3's columns are colored in blue.

Adding the marble tile flooring to the hall, which is composed of a textured paper (equivalent to the diffuse layer) and a sheet of acetate to add a reflective quality (equal to the reflectiveness layer).

Ooo, this is coming along nicely Otie,
May I ask what type of material you're using?

Taskboard or model making cardboard, textures printed in normal paper, sheets of acetate and acrylic paint. Need to get more professional tools and materials for better results, though..
Here, the electrical room that will power the entire hall. (In real life it is not located here.)

Very interesting. I love the idea of putting lights in models. It really brings them to life, and makes them look like the real thing.

Thanks guys!
Starting Level B1, this time using printed plans instead of tracking each point with the plans on the computer. This method will make things easier, faster and more accurate. Ribs coming soon!
