DAY 5:
This day I went to Utrecht, but also took some pictures in Amsterdam in the morning and in the evening/ night. An Utrecht thread will come later.

Amsterdam Arena, the Ajax stadium.

Me and a Swiss friend from the hostel visited 3 rock clubs in the evening.
This is The Cave, the only “real” metal club in Amsterdam. It was very small, but nice with live bands.

Kalverstraat, a long pedestrian street.

Spui:

Spui is a square in typical Dutch style in the heart of Amsterdam. It has many outdoor restaurnants and statues and is known for its many bookstores and book markets. At Spui you can also find Begijnhof, one of Amsterdam's oldest inner courtyards.

The only street organ I saw, there are not many left in Amsterdam.

Spui.

Entertainment at Leidseplein.

Hard Rock Café Amsterdam.

Singelgracht canal (Hard Rock Café and Holland Casino to the left). It divides city center from the museum district.

MUSEUM DISTRICT:

This is where you find Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk museum. This area is rich and has many nice townhouses in New York/London style.

Could it be Greenwish Village, New York?

Rijksmuseum. This is one of the world’s foremost art museums and the most famous in Amsterdam. It looks very large from the outside, but it currently feels like a not so large museum, because of large renovations until 2013. Only 400 of 1 million art objects were visible during my visit. The museum has almost a million visitors a year. Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Sten are among the most displayed artists.

The museuem was founded in 1800 in The Hague, but was moved to Amsterdam in 1808. A new building was designed in Gothic and renaissance style, inaugurated in 1885.

Inside Rijksmuseum:

Rembrandt’s famous painting “The Nightwatch”.

The museum looks full of varied and gorgeous objects & crafts. I love to see furniture in museums and galleries.

In the late evening (it “never” gets dark in Holland summertime) it was time to get home from Schiphol Airport, one of Europe’s largest airports:

Amsterdam from above. Goodbye Amsterdam!
