Six lane bridge should be constructed on the eastern side of guwahati as it will make a loop with saraighat bridge and another four lane bridge being constructed adjacent to it by gammon india. this road could be developed as a ring road in future. ofcourse GS road should not be a part of ring road. instead, they should try to connect NH-37 in Jorabat with a tunnel. this will make guwahti a really beautiful city and can attract lots of tourist.

as for the six lane, my grandfather in SGBG and my elder in ACC both told me that all newer roads (6 mile, highway 37, and kamakhya to jalukbari) will eventually be converted into 3 lane, but once guwahati pop and city limits are increased (as according to new GMDA limits like sunny said).. and then the rest are supposed to become proper 4 lane i.e 2x2 (beltola, narangi, VIP road, gorchuk, hatigaon, etc)

one of the older two lane roads from beltola.. as you can see from the electricity line poles, thats where the older lanes width ended.. they will now remove those and transfer the lines to the newer poles..

one major issue i noticed, in the name of lane development and widening, our footpaths and walkways are (literally) going down the drain.. for a city that tells everyone it places importance in development and infrastructure for tourists and retail, this issue will definately bite us later if not taken care of now..

Guwahati can be made so beautiful. this is evident from these pics. Guwahati can easily beat other beautiful cities like bangalore and pune. Guwahati is nature's gift and has got immense potential in tourism sector. and i do not think people from rest of the india will find it difficult to adjust here. my only pray is to see a big boom in IT sector. this will put guwahati in right place. |

Paradise unexplored. No metro in INDIA can match guwahati when it comes to natural beauty. i would say this natural beauty should be preserved for attracting tourist, and clean and planned development with dedicated green zones inside the core and outskirt of the city should be the next goal of Guwahati development authority, GMC, GMDA and PWD |

DoNER Minister, NE CMs to meet PM Spl Correspondent
NEW DELHI, June 28 – Alarmed by the inordinate delays in execution of infrastructure projects in the region, mostly belonging to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Minister, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Paban Singh Ghatowar, is likely to lead a delegation of Chief Ministers of the region to meet the Prime Minister with their complaints. Briefing newsmen on conclusion of the meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC) today. The Minister said that participants expressed concern at the projects not being executed on schedule. The Governors and Chief Ministers were of the opinion that physical infrastructure development activities in the NER have to accelerate. Improvement in road, rail and air connectivity should be a focus area. It has been decided that all CMs of the North Eastern States (NES) to be led by Minister DoNER will meet the PM to discuss some of the issues of the region, Ghatowar said. Some of the projects that have suffered delays include national projects like the Silchar-Lumding gauge conversion project and Bogibeel rail-cum-road bridge. A separate meeting is proposed to be convened, which would be chaired by secretary, DoNER, where the Ministry of Road Transport would make a presentation. Describing the gauge conversion project as vital, Ghatowar said it will provide connectivity with hill States besides neighbouring Bangladesh. The project is now scheduled to be completed by December 2014. The completion of the tunnel is proving to be a major hurdle. A presentation by the Railways reflected that North Eastern Region has a rail link of 3908 km including 2497 km of BG. Railways have plans for conversion of all MG and narrow gauge lines into BG by 2014. At least three hubs for parking big aircraft at Guwahati, Imphal and Agaratala are being taken up. The hub at Guwahati would serve as an inter-regional one and that of Agartala and Imphal as intra-regional hub. Expansion of apron is being carried out for parking more aircraft, while Tezu, Along, Passighat, Daporizo and Ziro airports are being developed, Ghatowar said. http://www.assamtribune.com/scripts/...d=jun2912/at09 |

It seems initial phase of converting LGBI airport, guwahati into a regional HUB has already gained momentum and number of flights operating out of guwahati is likely to increase by a good margin. the above news says apron expansion is being carried out to accomodate more aircrafts.
