Geez, where are they going to find an empty lot in Detroit for this project?

As a Wings fan this is a terrific news.
Anything to revitalize, and provide jobs for the city of Detroit is good too. |

As an Avs fan, I hope it and the Joe burn to the ground...
But as an urban development junkie, I hope it gets built and looks awesome... So torn...

My biggest problem is the Pistons being stuck in the Palace. It is a great arena but in the middle of nowhere. Plus the loyal Pistons fan base is mainly in the city of Detroit and the suburbs of Wayne county. The people in Oakland county only show up when the team is going to six straight EC finals but, when the team is in its current shape half the arena is empty. |

Hello and welcome Redwingfan.
Looks good going to be great news for the team and the city. Could the Pistons move into this new arena? |

Making it look like the old Detroit Olympia would be brilliant. I like it.

No, Pistons have different ownership. If Illitch bought Pistons then they would have, or Wings would have moved in to the Palace.

The casinos have been a huge success. They provide hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue for the city. They're so successful Ohio put a casino in Toledo to prevent Ohioans from going to Detroit to gamble. Lots of cities have added casinos since Detroit built there's. The area around the two stadiums has been developed. Just look at the Broderick Tower that's set to open soon. This is ridiculous thinking that one move is going to completely revitalize a city. Building the arena and entertainment complex in Brush Park can bridge the gap between downtown and midtown.

The Pistons aren't leaving. The Palace is a fine building and still one of the nicest buildings in the NBA. Despite not having a hockey team, it is one of the top 5 busiest arena's in the US. Tom Gores who owns the Pistons also owns the Palace. He also owns the parking surrounding the Palace. No way is he going to give that up to lease a new arena from Illitch. Why lease when you already own a fine building?

Amway will finance the new arena? Only once they get their friends to chip in who will get their friends to chip in and then those friends get their friends to chip in.......

I don't think the Red Wings arena is going to be a $500 million monster, because the Palace will still be 30 miles north and so will the Pistons. The new Red Wings arena will get more concert business, but nearly not all of it. Hopefully the Wings can come up with something nice but on a reasonable budget.
BTW, I drew this up, I hope they are looking at something like this. ![]() ![]()
