I think this design is even better than that of Tower Verre or Stainway Tower....a true masterpiece into NY's skyline. I love the way it overcomes everything around it.
Well done NY!

it will always be Grand Central Tower to me, unless something better rises in the immediate area down the line. An Empire State Building for the 21st Century.

I know people poo-poo this kind of dropping in, but I can't be the only one who finds the top of this tower terribly, terribly resolved. It's just a bunch of irregularly-shaped squares and rectangles piled on top of an otherwise milquetoast tower; there's not connection between the crown and the rest of the building, and it drives me crazy to think this is going to be so prominent in the Midtown skyline.

I think the Empire State Building is one of Americas most timeless buildings. I also think that they should still build new skyscraper around because it really puts the Empire State Building in perspective.

2020. Demolition will probably last until the summer, then they have to do prep work for a year, and construction will probably take at least 3 years. There was a time table posted awhile back, I forgot the exact details.

Beautiful. But it does look like the ESB, Transamerica Building, and BoA Building had a kid together.

This design would look so much better if they raised the height of the spire by 50-100ft. On most buildings nowadays Id say a tall spire looks unnecessary, but this one is begging for it. IMO it would be a solid 9.75/10 with a longer spire.

The only thing that scares me is a design change! I hope that all the financial stuff is in order because this building is absolutely perfect!

i still have my issues with the crown, but it's all forgiven when I see the building from this angle...

Design is GREAT, maybe the crown just needs a bit of tweaking from some angles, but the rest screams NY! The set backs, the art deco references, the spire, the base, the lighnting scheme. KPF just designed a modern day tribute to ESB, and put it where it belongs, in Midtown. To me it seems like the greatest addition to midtown in a looong time, maybe just compared to Steinway, but OnaVandy has a plus for its sheer size.
Note aside, considering how much i like massive buildings, this one blew my brains!!!!! It's just inmense, it could even dwarf both actual and former WTC. And seeing ESB kind of dwarfed is mind boggling, though it bothers me a little that makes Chrsyler almost disappear.

I'm having a very hard time accepting seeing this tower crush Chrysler of the sort.

But it looks amazing in the night renders.
