I absolutely adore that render, it shows the night lights of the tower so nicely.

They're making some great progress. Should easily be done by the end of year.

It is legit sad to see that beautiful terracotta work get destroyed. Obviously there are many financial incentives to redeveloping this area, but I do not think the human, street-level experience will be improved.

One Vanderbilt demolition close to completion, Marc Holiday says on Q2 earnings call
http://therealdeal.com/2016/07/21/sl...eap-financing/

Quote:
The company’s executives spent a large portion of the call talking about One Vanderbilt, a $3.1 billion office development next to Grand Central Terminal. Demolition of existing buildings on the site is under way, and Holliday expects the site to be clear and ready for excavation in three weeks.

SL Green recently signed a term sheet for a $1.5 billion construction loan, which the company expects to close within 60 days. The company is also still holding talks with potential joint venture partners, which Holliday said “have gone exceedingly well” but are unlikely to lead to a deal this year.

Why don't any architects bring this kind of stuff back and put it in new buildings? There's still people who can do that kind of work.

i wonder how many news outlets and blogs ended up using funkyskunk's rendering thinking it was an officially released one... I guess that goes to show how well it was interpreted.

As droneriot pointed out, there is some resurgence lately. But most architects still live in a Bauhaus echo chamber

I don't think I've seen this posted here, so I thought I would screengrab my favorite shot from that promo video:

It really does feel like Chrysler, ESB and One Vanderbilt are all of a piece with, and evolving out of, each other.

HOLY CRAP! Awesome night render there. Gonna be an incredible addition to the midtown skyline. Can't wait for this masterpiece to rise.

I hope the building to the north will vanish too, and be replaced by another gigantic office tower, that has as much office space as possible, in order to save the beautiful buildings wihthin the rezoned area from death. It would be too sad to loose some of the gems.

As is possible that in 462 m only do 64 plants?

Many reasons:

1. Very high ceilings for super desirable office space.

2. The occupied floors end at around 350 meters although there is some public space and an observatory above.

3. The building has a spire, the roof is 420 something meters.

4. I think the building actually has 68 floors, that's the figure I've seen most but many different ones have been thrown around.
