YIMBY says 1301' roof 1401' spire. SL Green Reps say 58 floors, DOB docs say 1501' and 67 floors. Yikes.

Can NY ever get a tower without it being value engineered or stripped of height?? 1WTC, Central Park Tower, Hudson Spire, 30 Hudson Yards, One Vanderbilt.

This thing is going to be shorter than 432 Park. What a letdown.

I put my trust into the DOB documents, since they are official papers, unlike things SL green says or such.

I'm not too sure now, the 1401' figure is coming up everywhere now, even the Times and WSJ are using it in reference to the building height.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/17/ny...tral.html?_r=0
Quote:
The buildings were destroyed to make way for a 1,401-foot office tower, One Vanderbilt, that will rival the Empire State Building in height.
But then the wording in the WSJ makes it a bit confusing, cause it could be interpreted as if the building rises 1401' to the roof followed by the spire as we thought. Would be nice to get some definitive clarification.

http://www.wsj.com/articles/develope...ark-1476663585
Quote:
The mammoth East Midtown office tower to be known as One Vanderbilt will rise 1,401 feet and taper into a slender pinnacle intended as an emphatic addition to the Manhattan skyline.
Anyway, groundbreaking is scheduled for tomorrow according to the Times.

With the floor cut that isn't exactly inspiring confidence.

Why don't we put more weight in the actual One Vanderbilt website which recently cited 1,501ft? ... I mean how could they get that wrong??? That's a very important piece of information that they would have had to research and confirm before publishing it.

Also, did the square footage also change based on those recent articles?

Assuming a height reduction, I don't see any significant change in the overall massing of the building to indicate that they compensated for a supposed height reduction to maintain the same square footage. This would be noticeable, wouldn't it?

If the square footage that recent articles are citing is the same as last year's, then it's likely they're just going by roof height, no?

Holy smokes, this video makes One Vandy look awesome (which is obviously its purpose):

Some of the renders show it clearly taller than 432 Park, which would suggest no height reduction, but that doesn't really mean anything -- just like lighting effects and swooping aerials, exaggerating the scale of the building is another effect the render artists might use to make it stand out.

I absolutely adore the last picture, I'm having an impression that New York is changing for the better, it looks updated and it manages to stay classy in the same time.
I didn't realize how big is the impact of the building when viewed from Central Park, until these recent renders.

The last picture look like an tribute to statue of Liberty in a Skyscraper form. Can't wait for this massive structure to start rising towards the stars. Because this will be the new star

i am not fond of this buildings design at all. i looks bulky, tastelessly corpulent and devoid of any elegance or design originality. with all those elegant and lovely tall buildings going up near the Central Park, what is the excuse for this pile of mass? quite disappointing.

This is an office building, the Central Park towers are residential buildings. Usually, in NYC at least, office buildings are bulkier and have more square footage to accommodate tenants, look at the towers at the WTC or Hudson Yards for example.
I absolutely love the impact of this tower, my only little tiff with it is with the crown, which I think could be refined a bit, but other than that, I love the design. This will be the first major tower the anchor the midtown skyline in a long time, more so than the CP Tower in my opinion because of its location, can't wait.
