Did anyone ever do a math exercise what land area NYC would cover if there was no building with more than two storeys? All types, residential, office, etc. Probably half of New York State.

This is moving along nicely. When can we expect this to be over street level?

According to Crains Manhattan has 450 million sq feet of office space. http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article...f-office-space

While Wikipedia says Manhattan has 520 million sq feet of office space. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan

Manhattan island has approx 22.7 sq miles of land area.
450 million sq feet = 16.1 sq miles of land area
520 million sq feet = 18.65 sq miles of land area

So a single story building would need to cover 18.65 sq miles and a 2 story building would need to cover a least half that at 9.32 sq miles.

Of course 9.32 sq miles is completely inaccurate because such a building would need a very large horizontal transportation system (moving sidewalks) which would increase it's size substantially.

they should up the height of the spire to pass or equal the Empire State Building's antenna.

You know what perspective is right? Also the ESB (not Empire Strikes Back) full height is 1,454 feet and One Vandy will be 1,401 feet as we all know...only a 53 foot difference
