No need to be snarky, Tom. It's obvious he wasn't saying that the spire should be taller than ESB's antenna from that perspective, just that it should be objectively taller (ie, 1455 feet or higher).

I agree that the current 100 foot spire is dinky, although I don't necessarily think adding height to it will necessarily improve things...

One Vandy's crown is striking (even if I still think it needs refinement and re-balancing) and whatever the height of the spire, I think it's more distracting than additive. Plus we've already got too many of these vanity-height spires.

Since you're not setting any kind of height record with a 1401' spire, why not just lose it? You might need to adjust the final volume of the crown to resolve a little better, but in general, I think it's more dignified without.

I love One Vandy's crown. I think it's the most defining part of the tower and what gives it its art deco-ish, old-new-york feel, and what has provoked comparisons with ESB and Chrysler Building.

The light shows will be spectacular, that's for sure!

I like to think of this building as a modernized Empire State Building.

Don´t even try to find accuracy in news articles. Journalists are lazy.

I love the architecture in One Vanderbilt's design. But looking at that picture of Greco-Roman, Art Deco and Beaux-Arts brick and mortar, it is quite evident that modern just can't compete with the old.

One Vanderbilt isn't far off, but its not symmetrical. The only tower I would put under that classification in the US is this one in St Louis. Stern's limestone towers come close but even they have some discrepancies.

I would say Parkview Square in Singapore is a perfect example for that.

LOL!!...Parkview Square is more like neo kitch!
...Would fit in Vegas!...though the recent Smith Center in downtown is really great!!(remind me a bit of the beautiful Bullocks Wilshire in gorgeous Los Angeles!)

Actually Parkview Square is brilliant. Just because it is a recent build does not mean it's kitch. It doesn't have to be an exact copy of the past, but a thoughtful continuation. This building does this well. What is kitch is the repetitious boring bland glass boxes pretending to be style because of an odd angle here or some cheesy chopped off corner there. The world needs a lot more Parkview Squares than a poor copy of the Shard with the top blunted off.
