I was there yesterday and saw the workers feeding the thick main cable up to the second crane from a massive spool at the street level.

Hasn't been much in the way of vertical rise, but here's a good view of the structure as of noon today:

Seriously man, the chrysler in the background is stealing the shots in spite of all that action, what a beautiful timeless piece of work!

Sorry for the off-topic.

No need to be sorry. The Chrysler Building is still after nearly 90 years vastly superior to most of the other skyscrapers in the world.

I know we are living in a very globalized world, but I think it is almost un-American that 90 percent of The Chrysler building is owned by the Abu Dhabi Investment Council...The Washington Monument was completed just 40 years before the completion of the Chrysler Building..

I think Empire State is also owned via similar circumstances. Got to love those elites willing to sell it's own countries history to the highest bidder.

The ESB is owned by the Empire State Realty Trust, which has foreign shareholders but is still an American company. QIA recently took a 10% stake and I believe that there are Japanese and Norwegian investors as well.

Since the globalized, interdependent, international economic system was spearheaded by the US [and allies] after WWII with various institutions like Bretton Woods, WTO, IMF etc. I would say that foreign ownership of landmark real estate is about as American as it gets. The Japanese were buying up NYC skyscrapers in the 90s like there was no tomorrow.

The base doesn't fit in well with GCT in my opinion - seems too jarring in styles. Don't see why they went with that slant, it looks plain bad. I thought the whole idea was to mesh with the old beaux-arts masterpiece.

The open space in front of GCT reminds me. It's just shocking to think how close that station was to getting wrecked. Lucky for NYC that the courts saved it.

The building they demolished for this one was quite nice, but not surprised they got rid of it. It appears to be a NY thing thing to kill fine pre-war buildings before touching 50/60's mass produced crap.

We now have another level of cross-bracing and the first on the perimeter. Taken today:
