The Vegas Smith Center is certainly a nice piece of neo-art-deco architecture.

Nice. I can hardly believe this is already above ground, it feels like we were just watching demolition and the beginning of excavation.

I’d love to see some shots of the Southeastern corner, where the flared cut-away part of the lobby will be most dramatic.

They've really gone full speed ahead over the past three weeks or so; the lobby and first few floors are structurally demanding but after that it seems like it'll be a pretty nice pace of construction.

The southeast corner is still underway and is hard to get a good photo of, but I'll try in the next few days and see what I can get. The overhang is really pronounced on the east side and now nearly complete.

Sad it lost its graciousness with that height cut. Still should be iconic enough to compete for attention with the ESB and Chrysler.

When this boom wraps up, it'll end up being the fourth-tallest building in the city and will fill the 42nd Street axis quite nicely as a complement to the Bank of America Tower.

I'd say it's just fine.

Honestly, I don't see many large proposals coming through these days for NY. I'd say the boom is looking over right now and the current construction is the end of the cycle.

And yeah, the tower will be fine, i'm just saying it would have looked far nicer if the height cut hadn't occurred. The crown was far more elegant before.

Oh just wait till they go ahead with re-zoning midtown east. Then you’ll see more outlandish proposals. Could even be a few serious ones in the top thread on this site. Fingers crossed.

I sure hope not. I don't want this boom to ever end! But I do know that realistically — it has to at some point. I honestly never expected anything to happen like this in the first place but I'd like to get at least a few more big ones before it's over for good.

I hope so. However, I also expect a slowdown in the market. I think this boom is about to level out.

There might be an over-supply currently; it just needs to play catch up.. but with a $4.1T budget about to be signed, I see the stock markets/real estate development still pushing forward.. inflation is starting to creep up.. it might be more about a correction, but then it would probably go back higher and kind of continue that movement; I think some cataclysmic event would have to happen to sink the momentum at this point; whether it is fed related (which probably won't happen, they don't do anything drastic) or something happens internationally.. the economy has a way of fixing itself if/when it gets too hot..

The southern end is seeing a new, thinner set of bracing being applied (taken this morning):

It was a global trend that was particularly noticeable on this forum, because the "Proposed Supertalls" section got pretty damn boring the last two years compared to the boom years before. I like how fashionking worded it, "play catch up", it seems a plausible description of the last two years' lull in very tall proposals. We're seeing a more active proposed section again these days, so I think the global boom is bound to resume, and NYC is likely to be at the forefront again.

I have just randomly looked at construction pictures of this tower recently, until i saw that render reality comparission up there. It just struck me that this already reached a height of about 15 - 20m. The construction is going on very quickly IMO. I didn´t even think this will be out of the pit by now, let alone so much above street level.

From the southwest corner this afternoon. The slant on the southern edge is now clearly visible:
