Taken this afternoon. The bottom of the overhang on the northwestern corner is nearly complete. Watching the first few floors go up makes you appreciate how deceptively complex this building is:

Do those renders reflect the current height or are they of the older, taller version?

I think that's the taller version rendered above. I'm still shaking off my disappointment about the height cut, I really wanted this tower to stand above the ESB's antenna.

Still will be the tallest in the area. The shorter version makes the tower look really stubby and throws the crown off with the rest of the building.

The lighting at night can certainly rival that of Empire State.

The first photo in post 2704, as i have mentioned before, is what its all about to me, that is seeing how the structure transfers the load from the tower section, onto the foundation, this is my favorite part of watching skyscrapers go up, and in many cases a single photograph can emphasize the complexity of this aspect of construction, cantilevers, diagonal bracing, heavy box columns, wide web spandrel beams, outrigger base fabrication(s), can all be seen in this one shot, of course it helps if you know what your looking at, but even if you don't, it still looks intense!!!

this reminds me of photos i once saw of the footings and 12 floor podium section of the PanAm building going in, next door,(now Metlife) that tower is directly above 2 levels of approach railroad tracks into Grand central station, the steel was brought to the site and lifted directly from railroad flat cars, in that phase of its construction, what is interesting to me is that this tower being constructed now, at almost twice the height of MetLife, contains less than half the rentable floor area of the MetLife tower, which is just over 4 million sq ft, at the time of its construction, (1960-61) the largest (highrise) office building in the world, 808 ft, 59 floors,

Non reflective glass is the best. It will look amazing. Has nothing to do with One 57.

I have no clue but I pass by this multiple times a day and I've yet to see any concrete pour. The upward progress has slowed somewhat due to more intricate geometry at this point and potentially in preparation for a core but don't take my word on it.

A bit OT, but does anyone else think that 330 Madison (the tall blueish-silver tower in this pic) would look a lot better if management took some silver paint to the louvers of its mechanical floors? Their black color blended in perfectly with the old facade, which was largely black. But with that sleek new skin, they stick out like a sore thumb.

If they are going to change the appearance of the glass for the observation deck then they could at least plate it in gold, like Eureka Tower .

No, honestly, I think for One Vanderbilt all the glass needs to be a uniform color to make it look the best.
