Spires and setbacks, baby! The city used to be full of them you know. This is a return to form.

Compared to those conceptual renders with the ring and all that, it appears rather old fashioned looking. I'm not enthralled. I thought this was going to be something super progressive and foward-looking.

Disappointing.

How tall you think it is, Robert?

Looks maybe 1,100-1,300 to me. Spire is maybe 1,400-1,450.

I'm kinda dissapointed. The top part of it looks like a lattice construction like the old Freedom Tower. I don't like that

I agree, what a let down after all the hype of 'iconic' tower.

How can one who purports to be a fan of tall things hate spires?

TBH, I'd take that old FT over this rehash.

The spire isn't the issue, it's the rest of the building that irks me. I'm not seeing anything innovative or very iconic here. I see a safe design intended to echo and pay homage to the old art-deco towers (Chrysler, ESB) rather than a bold statement that looks toward the future. I'm sure many people will disagree but I found the slanted tower render far more impressive than this re-hash. Also, this building doesn't have that much SF, i thought it was going to be around 2 million?

Yes, it looks so tall because it's much closer to the front, but it's still 216m.

A good height reference point is 330 Madison which is directlt across Madison from 1 Vanderbilt. The former is more than double the height of that one, which is probably around 500 feet tall.

Agree. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a very NY design. A Chrysler-BofA hybrid.

The tower would look good if it had normal floors 'til the top but with this lattice work as the top part, I don't like it. Also I don't like that it will cheat a lot for height

Bear in mind that we're seeing one angle. Images of the HY North and South Towers don't look groundbreaking from certain angles, but they're great overall. The same holds true for One 57. Remember the initial rendering that was released in which it appeared to be a box with no crown? It will be interesting to see the east and south facades.

From all those concept renders that were so futuristic and we end up with this? I really doubt this tower is 'iconic' enough for this site. Looks incredibly average.

That design idea looks good for me, some similiarities to other towers, but I am curious how they will do the top part.

i like the shape a lot, but the crown looks quite empty, let's hope it is just because of the drawing

I laughed at all those dreamers who predicted a 2k footer here.
