Don't expect an office building to be taller than 1WTC any time soon. New York's first megatall will be mixed-use, or residential only. 225W57th is ~500m, and residential (if you take out the Nordstrom store).

How things are going, I'll be glad if this break 1300' / 400m.

True, but the Hudson Yards tower is 1337 and office that's at least close to 1WTC

I'd hope they could incorporate the facades of the existing buildings. Pretty soon NYC won't have any older large buildings aside from the small few that will likely stay untouched or have been landmarked. All about the money, no weight on valuing history at all.

That's not accurate. South of 42nd St, there's a sea of old office buildings.

Yea, but this specific block has 2 very intriguing buildings. The one facing Vanderbilt ave, and the one facing Madison ave. I can't get a proper address for either one, but if you look at photos you can see why i find them intriguing... and possibly worth saving, at least the facades.

Coolest building ever! If this gets built it'll be great!

Looks a little like the Bank of America Tower.

This should be taller than both, and maybe 225 West 57th if we're lucky.

KPF's Guangzhou tower had some common elements for KPF's tentative proposal for 1 Vanderbilt.

This thing will definitely be tall but I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything over 400m seeing on how 225 w 57 never made it up that high.

I just really really hope the final design looks nothing like that render

Wow, that is beautiful. That is exactly the kind of design that should be New York City's tallest structure. And 42nd Street is exactly the location it should be.

I think that this is quite far from the final design.

I does, but I would favor the Guangzhou over this proposal anytime.

I did not know Hines is also involved with this project. I'm not a fan of the rendering but hopefully it will be revised. The top structure bothers me especially. This would definitely would be classified as vanity skyscraper if they build as shown.Hopefully the midtown rezoning has a favorable outcome and they do away of the sunrise provision so the developer can start making some serious plans to get this off.

I don't think any skyscraper has actually been built with an open-air cage on top!

It's a horrific and a vomit-inducing muddle of a building as currently rendered. The top is just a complete mess and a major waste of space. This site needs something with presence and good height to roof to mark the CBD that is east-midtown and highlight its revitalization from its current outdated and drab state.
