Three possible solutions for 1 Vanderbilt project

I imagined three possible solutions for 1 Vanderbilt project with 65, 70 and 75 floors and different heights (with new spires).

image hosted on flickr

Solutions:

A) 1 Vanderbilt with 65 floors - 457m tall - 1.6 million-square-foot

B) 1 Vanderbilt with 70 floors - 535m tall - 1.7 million-square-foot

C) 1 Vanderbilt with 75 floors - 565m tall - 1.8 million-square-foot

I believe that 1 Vanderbilt can start as soon as the rezoning passes. I believe that most tenants in the various towers have leases that will terminate readily, and demolition will take quite some time.

Besides Vanderbilt, which ones are likely to begin work(demolition, prepping, construction) earlier than the 2017 starting date envisioned in the district? How many exceptions? btw the preliminary renderings are gorgeous... I do think though that unlike Robert who thinks 1,200-1,250 feet the most likely it will go about a hundred feet higher. I do think while we get most in the range of 800-1,300 ft. we may see a few push to 1,500 or 1,600 ft. I think anything more is likely a pipe dream but taken as a whole Manhattan will have arguably the best and most iconic skyline in the world, certainly at least top 5.

425 Park and MTA will get fast-tracked.

I'd be shocked if any tower near GCT exceeded 1,350.

I see you have raised your estimated height limit one hundred feet, Robert! We'll see.... I'm betting otherwise but suffice to say whatever we get in the area, so long as the architecture pops will be great for the city. 425 Park I know of, which is MTA? Any others part of the exceptions permitted?

Hm, the first design looks too much like 1WTC. The other three are fine.

I've always thought that it would be between 1,150' and 1,350', but that 1,250' is likely.

Why is the color seaweed green for these models? The renders clearly show transparent glass with a slight blue hue, not vomit green

I wouldn't be overly shocked if this is 1450', I remember one of the massing models in the skyline had it to the tip of the antenna on the ESB.

These are great attempts, but they get the crown wrong, and they miss the diagonal slice/ setback on the east and west facades. 2 of the 3 pieces of gte crown flow seamlessly from the sides. See below:

Yea what's up with the color?

1250 - 1300 ft, I will be happy as a clam for this tower. Wish they choose to go with a black pearl cladding!!

Does anyone have any theory as to what that rectangular box is near the bottom of 1 Vandy?

Huge Viewing room?? Some kind of auditorium? Dunno

Looks like the top will be an open steel structure?

The more I see it the more I love it... the top is the thing that will make it iconic... it will be one of those towers that unmistakably says "New York" . The tapering top leading to the spire is gorgeous.

I don't really see it so New York. I wouldn't be surprised if this was built in Tokyo or Osaka. Great design whatsoever

I'd say the "B" 535m is my favourite, the crown has the the right proportions with the rest of the building.

I hope it isn't that colour green, although it would make it very unique to NY.

That the south facade along 42nd St slopes back is cool too. I see this design getting modified anyway since they're now permitting residential and hotel use in the rezoned towers.
