The news article said 1,500ft. That's the only source so far that has given a number. I'm hard pressed to believe them then.

1100 feet max., if we are lucky. Remember the tower will have only 65 floors.

SL Green owns a block bound by 42nd and 43rd Streets, between Madison and Vanderbilt Avenues. The company wants to demolish the three buildings on the site — none are taller than 20 stories — to build a 65-story, 1.6-million-square-foot tower, to be known as 1 Vanderbilt.

Someone said that figure doesn't include like 18 floors of the crown somewhere in the thread, i think around 400m is a ballpark for height.

Hudson Yards North is only 64 though listed at 80.

It isn't clear since we don't know whether residential will be included.

I can guarantee this will be in that range.

Solutions:

A) 1 Vanderbilt with 65 floors - 457m tall - 1.6 million-square-foot

B) 1 Vanderbilt with 70 floors - 535m tall - 1.7 million-square-foot

C) 1 Vanderbilt with 75 floors - 565m tall - 1.8 million-square-foot
I am not sure if it is just me, but IMHO the design is extremely boring and primitive. Besides, I am not sure that pyramid style with inclined exterior walls is the best solution to this place. Somehow I'd say that more classic version of the skyscraper is more appropriate for the Grand central district.

I would agree. The color green just doesn't fit in with New York. The slanted sides doesn't help either. It appears as if the building design has to be changed in order for it to be approved for construction.

True, but I guess the spire will add quite a few meters to its total height.

color - I can live with. it is not the best, but... it is ok. the form - not good.

why not build something more classy and stylish like this one: simple, elegant, contemporary yet classy.

None of the renderings show a green tower.

I agree. Only the Skyscraperpage drawing does. I don't know why.

Still waiting better renders for my final judgement, but for now this looks like a poor copy of the Shard in London.

The top doesn't fit the rest of the tower, there is no seamless transition between the shaft and the crown. It looks clunky and awkward.

The two shorter pieces of the crown flow seamlessly from the sloped east and west facades.

exactly! because it is build on the best of classic American skyscraper traditions that are famous because of New York and Chicago.

I just don't get all these desires to build something similar to all this pretentious crap like in Dubai. It doesn't belong there - but I can't care less about it there. And it sure doesn't belong here.

I like this tower. The ONLY thing about it that bothers me is the very top. Of the three glass crown levels, I think the highest one is too thin. If it were about 20% wider I'd like it better.

If apartments are added, it will become thicker.

If luxury apartments are added near the top, the public space might be eliminated, unless they could find a way to accommodate both visitors and tenants regarding elevators, noise, etc. It would be simpler to have a public area between the office portion and the apartments at the top. A smaller floor plate at the top could mean less room for elevators in the core, making it more suitable for apartments than areas that allow for hundreds of visitors at once.

Or what they could do is add a business hotel to try and replace the grand Hyatt then, just make it irrelevant, so that eyesore or a building can be demolished and wecan get a sky scraper or maybe another super tall

I agree. It's too jagged. Why not just a smooth transition ala Shanghai Tower's curves? New York has no sinous towers, it's awful.
