If the rezoning passes, the Grand Hyatt will come down and be replaced by a 300m+ tower.

Praise the NYC Zoning Commission! Seriously people other than us skyscraper and Super tall fans have to realize that the midtown rezoning is going to provide many beneficial changes!!

"Mr. Garodnick doesn't think that."

Hey folks, in the SSP diagrams I saw that the height of this building is being estimated to 435 meters. Now I looked a bit arround and I know that no height was announced so far but what are the chances it will have such a height, or a similar height? It would be incredible if it would be the new tallest in the city

IMHO this Chinese tower has grace and style as well as height. So it is possible to build something that will be inspiring and new. I hope they will remake the design.

What are the chances of this being built? Doesnt look like the city council wants to pass it.

This will definitely pass, though Garodnick might wait until DiBlasio takes over before the Council votes.

I am starting to think the Midtown East rezoning will go down in flames given this NIMBY council member. Shameful.

Definitely not. They need a mere majority, and the votes are there. Garodnick can delay it to spite Bloomberg, but he can't kill it. In fact, he's spoken about passing certain projects now (ie, SL Green's and L&L's) and taking up the full bill under DiBlasio.

Totally agree RW and with your post above if it comes to that. I actually think he will ultimately approve this, this month. There has been a lot of posturing & bluffing by Goradick but this is going through b4 Bloomberg's out. You can bank on it.

A poll was done recently in Goradick's district and less than 50% of his constituents even knew that midtown east rezoning was an issue. They had bigger concerns than the rezoning, so it would be in Goradick's interest to pass this rather than alienating himself with a powerful real estate industry especially he has higher aspirations in the political ladder.

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of the City Council. They don't pass a rezoning unless the local councilmember supports it, regardless of support among the rest of the council. It's just the way things work--a mutual compact for palm-greasing.

I know how the City Council works. This will pass.
