It looks a bit like an ESB twin!

They seem to be quite close to each other or is that the perspective?

Perspective. Location is correct and the heights look good too.

I've got to say, that edit of yours sbarn has really sold it for me, this building will fit perfectly in New York!

Just makes me wonder about the Hudson Spire which should have an extra 700,000 square feet more than this; almost a third extra! Has really boosted my hopes for that building too!

I think it's a million more SF if I'm not mistaken. 1.8 vs. 2.8

If they grow the height of the spire , it can easily break the 1650ft mark.

Nice hatchet job sbarn!

I'm soo pumped about this project now. With the increase in height the tower looks more proportional also. I may be wrong but shouldn't 1 Vandy be a wee bit taller than the ESB since it is taller and closer by 8 blocks?

Also it's time to update this bad boy too!

We would probably need another angle cause it would be blocked by 432 Park.
I agree with you, I'm getting more and more excited about this tower, it's gonna look amazing along with the ESB, now if only they could do something with that top....

I actually wanna see this picture updated with 1 Vanderbilt

Yea that would be a good pic. 1 Vandy would be towering over the Chrysler in that pic.

I don't know why or how people are making comparisons of this building as a twin to the ESB. The set backs and height are the only similarities. And that barely makes it. Aside that I like it and cannot wait to see this rising into the sky. I hope one day I too will design some of Manhattan's tallest.

New Details For One Vanderbilt, Midtown's New Supertall Tower
http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2014/0...tall_tower.php

Quote:
More details have emerged about the Kohn Pedersen Fox-designed, SL Green-developed One Vanderbilt. The 1,350-foot tower, which will rival in height the 1,379-foot-tall 432 Park Avenue and the 1,350-foot-tall 111 57th Street, will have what a KPF principal described to DNAinfo as an extra transparent facade—of the Fifth Avenue Apple cube variety—with diagonal stripes of double-glazed terra cotta. According to the KPF principal, the tower's materials aim to "unbury" views to a currently obstructed corner of neighboring Grand Central Terminal. The design came before Community Board 5 on July 1 to mixed reviews. One board member brushed off the haters noting that Grand Central Terminal and the Chrysler Building were "extraordinary and revolutionary" for their time, DNAinfo says.

Despite the tower's show-stopping size, SL Green is in talks with the City Planning Commission to increase the building's floor-area ratio from 216,000-square-feet to 300,000-square-feet. If City Planning concedes, SL Green will sweeten the pot by including subway access points, commuter rail access points, an interior public room and a public plaza on Vanderbilt Avenue says DNAinfo. Even if City Planning gives the nod, the proposal still has to pass through the city's uniform land form use review process. So while word on whether or not the developer will be permitted to build bigger is still far off, the building will definitely have a 6,000-square-foot ground floor public room that will include space for art on display, indoor greenery and a waiting area, and a third floor amenity space and terrace that can be used as a dining room or training room.

These are words that do not make sense; FAR is represented as a 1:X style ratio. Anyone care to venture on what the article is actually trying to say here?

Yes, NYC FAR is usually from 6 to 20, and this area might see a bump up to 30. Maybe they are trying to describe the amount of public space in and below the building, as that would make the city and planning board more amenable to a zoning FAR increase.

This will be an amazing addition to the NY skyline, for sure. Can't wait for some kind of approval to happen to get things going.

I really quite like the way this meets the street; it's airy, good mix of terra cotta and glass, really seems to create a human-scale building-within-a-building at the base.

But I need to see whether they've further refined the crown. That's a maker-or-breaker for me. What we've seen so far is not nearly as elegant as the rest of the tower is shaping up to be.

I like the contrast of classic with modern and that the modern isn't stark or sterile, either. It's getting better the more I see it.

Impressive large lobby. I like how open and light it is, with only minimal columns to bear the weight of the tower.

The only thing that irks me is the plaza, needs trees or something.
