The Modell's Sporting Goods store in the building on the site is closing with signs posted that they lost their lease. This means that the owner is trying to force the tenants out sooner rather than later. This could very well start very soon! The situation last night.

I agree Hunser. The Shard is stunning, but it's basically a 220m tower with a 180m unoccupied, open shard tacked upon it. That pinnacle would not be dominant in the middle of Manhattan.

Of course. It already has a tenant. Demolition should start by the summer.

I don't envy London. I love it. It's my second home.

This reminds me of the vote on Seinfeld for the presidency of the Del Boca Vista condo board.

It will totally dominate that picture once built, being a tad taller than 432 PA and a lot bulkier, it'll have a huge impact

Yes, 1Vandy and Norstrom are the big boys. 1Vandy is much more bulkier, but Nordstrom's roof is at ~1,500'.

I wonder how bulky 1 Vanderbilt will be. It's very tall for a 1.6m SF tower, and it tapers a lot.

One Vanderbilt May Offer Sky-High Observation Deck

Quote:
...At a presentation last night about the project, hosted by Open House New York and put on by Jamie van Klemperer, president of Kohn Pedersen Fox (the project’s architect), we learned some exciting new details about the top of the 68-story, 1,514-foot zigzag building.

The four-part contrapuntal structure will feature a transparent topper, which is currently envisioned as a public event space and observatory. And since One Vanderbilt will clock in as the third tallest office tower in the city, this look-out spot could possibly sit higher than the one at One World Trade Center, which offers views at 1,250 feet above ground. Specific renderings of the top of the tower haven’t yet been released, and the architects note that the use is subject to change.

I think for monetary reasons, they will have an OD.

There is another link in that link from 6sfft that shows more images. First time seeing a couple of those renderings. Nice.
