I feel like the city is going to have a glut of observation decks in the next few years. Maybe the competition will put pressure to keep the prices reasonable?

I think it would work if the people going to these observation decks were mostly New Yorkers and not clueless tourists. But one can hope. In any case it will be nice to see skyline pics that aren't just from 30 rock anymore!

demolition will start this year and will likely take at least a year, maybe a year and a half. There are several sizable buildings which need to be razed first. Then prep work needs to be done. I don't think we'll see this in the U/C section for at least 2 years. December of 2020 is the goal for completion.

Wtf, why did they cover the original building in crappy glass? It looked just fine as it was, but they made it ugly as shit with all that glass

Because Trump bought the place and Trump has no taste, so it got re-clad in class during the 80s to the dismay and horror of all lovers of good architecture.

If the whole Midtown East rezoning gets approved, that building will most probably get razed for development. Probably for a ~ supertall.

That happened when NY, like all US cities, descended to its nadir. On the plus side, a supertall eventually will rise on the site of this monstrosity.

I think that it would be at least 1,000 and could very well be over 1200.
