The contrast between this building and the dated structures around is remarkable. It just goes to show how old most of the city's office stock is and how it is way over due for a modernization. I was watching a YouTube lecture given by the former head of "land securities' in London, a major development firm, and the man noted how old NY looked on his last visit. The lecture was given at the London school of economics. I agree, compared to London, ny has really lagged in developing modern looking office space. It is high time that many more ugly buildings are replaced.

As someone who has experience milking cow tits... I think your assessment of this tower is a stretch.

Do they even have cows in Los Angeles?

No, I get my milk from Newport.

I think the top looks weird, like some kind of elongated cubist nipple. The shape just is not sexy at all. It's like the Architect got bored and decided to make some meaningless "cuts" to the top, to have some random shape. I just don't like it, that's all. Cheers, with a mug of Newport's finest milk.

If you are looking at the render on the last page the cuts ARE meaningless and random. I made the render from vague drawings that were available at the time.

The bright, open and modern street facade coming soon with this tower is essential for the rejuvenation of what is a rather dark and tired looking area. The place has a great future, it needs some more bright buildings to replace some of the heavy and dull (not at all lovely) older structures.

My only problem is the simplicity of the geometry. It looks like those things in video games where it hasn't loaded the high resolution model yet. It's a building that's still streaming from the disc.

It looks like Annie Moore's may have closed for good. It wasn't open for breakfast, and it had refuse strewn all over the floor.

When I walked by tonight, workers were dismantling Annie Moore's.

Conway's was open though.

I agree. NY is a simple geometry kind of town though. You certainly can't blame them for being inconsistent. Form wise this thing has nothing much to get excited about, however, the bright and optimistic materials are the big deal here and what the thing is going to do for the neighborhood and for the street wall. It's nothing short of outstanding the potential transformation we are dealing with here folks; once you start to think of the new modernized business hub that will be shortly arising from the ashes of many worn out looking unexceptional buildings.

Love it.

As much as HY and 57th new developments are great, Vanderbilt is really something else.

I just love the base of this thing and the organic/natural look of the materials. It feels like something NY hasn't seen before in that regard.

I think it looks stunning.

Also glad to see 1500ft+ buildings in NYC starting to become more of a norm.

[sorry if this has been posted]

Midtown East, Get Ready for 1,500-Foot One Vanderbilt

http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2015/0...vanderbilt.php

"While a few final approvals are still needed, it's pretty safe to say that the 1,500-foot-tall One Vanderbilt is going to happen. Today, City Councilman Dan Garodnick, along with the rest of the council's zoning subcommittee, announced his support of the project by approving a special permit that will rezone five blocks along the Vanderbilt corridor and allow for greater density. Garodnick, as you may recall, was largely responsible for killing the original Midtown East Rezoning, and thus stalling One Vanderbilt, so this is a pretty big moment. As part of the deal, the subcommittee made a few changes to the plans that City Planning approved in March to improve the public's benefits."

Sweet! I wonder how much they'll tweak the design before construction.

I have changed my mind. This tower is boring for such a prime location. Actually, it looks like a second rate copy of the shard and makes me vomit when thinking of the lost opportunity... Yuck

Poor NYC. Just when you think it can design a decent tower, it gets usurped by the European greats again.. Can't be beautiful and can't be innovative either. A sad story, for dowdy Manhattan
