Corinth, Greece

The three surviving columns of the great temple build in memory of Octavia, the sister of Emperor Augustus. The temple represents the imperial cult of Rome, which was spread throughout the empire.

Salona, ancient capital of roman province Dalmatia

One of the most important Roman cities with over 60 000 inhabitants, it is now merely a group of interesting ruins spread on a large piece of land. The city flourished as a center of trade and administration. P. Cornelius Dollabella, a governor of Dalmatia, started the construction of five roads to connect Salona with its hinterland, and with the frontiers of the province. By the second century C.E., Salona was a city of 60,000 people.

Manastirine, the starting point of most walks through Salona. Christian grave yards with basilicas grew on pagan necropolis.

Certainly the most impressive remnant of the city Salona is its 2nd century amphitheatre.

The sad fact is that the amphitheater was almost intact by the 17th century when the Venetians destroyed it in fear that the Turks may return and use it as a quarry for fortifications. So they destroyed it…

The Diocletian Aqueduct was constructed between the end of 3rd century AD and beginning of the 4th century. The aqueduct length was about 9 km and this part can be seen right outside the city of Split.

Pula amphiteatar, Croatia

The only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers and with all three Roman architectural orders entirely preserved. It was constructed in 27 BC - 68 AD and is among the six largest surviving Roman arenas in the World. A rare example among the 200 Roman surviving amphitheatres, it is also the best preserved ancient monument in Croatia.
