Yeah, it's decent. Looks like some of the 80s-early 90s buildings in NYC.

I assume that it will be a rental and may contain a hotel too. Not long ago, this area was rather forlorn.

Sorry, but this building is going to look like s**t (obviously, IMO). My main gripe is its treatment of the street wall. Madison Avenue has a great intact street wall and this completely destroys it. It not only has a dinky one or two story base, it is set back and rotates away from grid. Plus the design looks like its from the 1970s. Yuck!

It's not great. It will be ok if the glass is decent. It would have been nice to get a stone building here.

Stone seems more fitting here, but I'm sure glass will look great as well.

Discouraging, garbage and more. Why do they insist on building garbage near the ESB? The previous design was very good.

Metal Yapi posted a new perspective. It looks better from this angle, as it appears slimmer.

I walked by on 22 June 2013 and observed that a large excavator has already dug a very large pit.

I was not expecting much since this is still a Class B-/C stretch. That being said, it is filled with beautiful old buildings, so I hoped for something with a stone facade.

No stone on this bad boy. Renderings look to be 40 stories or so, figure near 500 feet to the top

A faceless glass box. Glass is such an overused material for buildings nowadays.

Sure, if your box has a weird shape and a setback.

Also, what's with this dumb fad of calling any remotely angular building a 'box'? It's a stupid derogatory nickname that's not even used correctly...

Plus, minimal buildings are good, as they are easy on the eyes and convey seriousness. The last thing NYC needs is overly whacky forms.

First of all, dont freak out because of what someone says on something as insignificant as a skyscraper forum. Grow up. Second, it is a box. A shape doesnt have to have four sides to be a box. Point is, this is a bland, faceless development. Worse than the shape is the terribly boring looking facade. Were the facade material of higher quality, the shape wouldnt be as much of a detractor.

By your logic, the only building that won't be/is a box in NYC is Torre Verre. Maybe some of the boxes have pencil tips...

Who cares if it's not an architectural show-off, or if it is nameless? NYC has more than enough landmarks. The filler is what truly builds a skyline. And if you can tell the quality of the glass from a blurry jpeg then I'd have to say, I'm impressed.

I have my opinions and you have yours. No sense fighting over something as simple as a skyscraper forum.

Excavation work was proceeding at a significant pace on Wed., the 31st of July. They posted a photo of the tower. It looks fine. It's nothing great, but this is still a schlocky area.
