Or at least it didn't in the recent past. Now we will have many soaring skyscrapers in Boston to compete with it. Boston will slowly become just another glittering jumble of high-rises. It might as well be in Indiana or Kansas.

I find it kind of passe to be complaining about 60s modernism.

Time has shown again and again that most people hate the designs of their immediate predecessors. Most people here are in their 30s and 40s and therefore grew up when mid-century modernism was relatively new. In the 1930s people hated Victorian buildings and called them kitsch and decadent. Art deco only became liked again in the 70s, and now mid-century modernism is undergoing its 50-year crisis.
To me, 60s modernism is historic and has vintage beauty, but many examples of 90s postmodernism mean nothing.

Prudential Center is now a part of the city and new buildings must find a relation with it.

That was very well said, ThatOneGuy. And while I'm generally not a fan of most buildings from the 50s to the 70s, Prudential is one of the exceptions to the rule. It has style and is an indelible part of the Boston skyline.

Hey, all!

According to this project's official website (http://www.millenniumtowerboston.com...llennium-tower), this tower will be 685ft in height.

This change upgrades it to a "skyscraper" by Skyscrapercity standards and makes it 40 feet taller than San Francisco's Millenium Tower.

Awesome!! That puts this at ~209m. Great to see a new skyscraper going up in downtown!

^By Skyscrapercity's definition, this tower will be Downtown Boston's first skyscraper!

Can a mod please change the title to 685' (I guess 209m) and move this into the Skyscraper section?

Nonsense. 60s modernism is almost always ghastly, and it is particularly out of place in Boston. Modernism was a break with the history of architecture in the west - it reflected nihilism and materialism. It was not just another trend.

And there is no conceivable reason for new buildings in Boston to have to fit in with the Pru. It is not the new benchmark for all Boston architecture.

Nice looking tower - kinda reminds me of that other Boston tower... the one up the other end of the city centre...
