Those Peru trains look interesting, but I presume that Argentina has the most extensive rail network in South America and the most modern train fleet.
Is it possible to go by passengertrain from Peru to Argentina? image hosted on flickr  This is a maintenance-locomotive. I think it's a Z65 which originates from the 1960's.
