Actually it depends on the depth. Gravity is a function of the depth of the planet, the more down you go the weaker it becomes.
Edit: what I sad is not exactly correct. It's not a linear function of the radius of the planet, but it depends on the composition of the planet. In the picture below you can see the strength of gravitational field inside the Earth. However if the planet were hollow than inside it the gravity would be indeed 0. Also in the center it's zero.

what i am curious about is more philosophical matter
if a person is conceived on mars is it still an earthian or is it martian? Is it even same species or did we just created an intelligent extra terrestial live ? are we gods ? and we can say : "My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place." John 18:36 are there jews on mars? an shit like this ahahaah

No, you probably wouldn't need tons of them but I'm just saying that its wrong to say that they will be producing their own food (independent of shipments from earth). And unless these nutrients are found naturally on Mars, they will always have to be shipped from earth.

They only need a starter kit. We don't eat the entire plant from root to stem to leaf. Those would be decayed back into the Martian soil, as would the human waste. So just like on Earth, the death of previous life will be the nutrients of the following generations, all "activated" by the light of the sun.

And what about the meat products? Are we going to have chicken, pig farms on Mars?
And how are we going to get them to Mars? Okey I understand we can transport chickens while there are in the eggs....., but still what about larger animals?

Potassium, Sodium, etc are all available from Martian soil, processing those locally would be far easier than shipping them from Earth. Besides which, human waste products would be readily available and the whole process would operate cyclically.

Eventually, but not on the first day. First we need a habitat for them, and enough "green Mars" to grow the vegetation to feed them. Then we could take fertilized embryos only, and grow them in artificial "wombs" and then "birth" them onto Green Martian soil. It is easily doable today.

Indeed. It's all easily doable today. And will be even more so 10 years from now. So don't you worry, darlings.

Lichen would grow on Mars if we just plopped 'er there and waited.

well it is reasonable to think that to raise a healthy child on mars you may need or want to change his DNA code (nature would propabbly do it if you gave her 100mln years ) as diffrence beetwen chimp DNA and human are only 1-2% would it be still homo sapiens sapiens or maybe homo marsianus ![]() and you have several races even on earth depending on envioroment / continent (dont want to sey how they look like ) they live inso i wouldn't dismiss this question as we creating a totally new world and they surley will appear in future not that i give a fuck about classification just trying to make it more intresting Last edited by bitreaktor; January 7th, 2013 at 11:28 AM. |

What if they started out by harvesting the Asteroid belt for minerals that they would add to Mars to boost it's diversity of mineral content. Then the next time a comet comes into the solar system, they harvest that for water for Mars.
I wonder if some of the other celestial bodies in the solar system might hold water, even if frozen, that can be harvested for use on Mars. I believe Europa does, so maybe it can be harvested of it's water to be used on Mars. What would be even better is to find a whole huge chunk of ice that they could make crash into Mars. Something the size of Texas...LOL The idea being that you need a lot of water on that planet if it is to become a truly habitable place. I'm not sure it is really feasible though as this project seems to forget that Mars does not have a powerful magnetic field like Earth's which not only helps hold in the atmosphere, it protects life from radiation. |
