Batam is an island and city in Riau Islands Province of Indonesia, known for its free trade zone area as part of the Sijori Growth Triangle, is located 20 km (12.5 miles) off Singapore's south coast. The 715 km² (276 miles²) island has a population of 965,062 (Jun 2009).[1].

The official language on the island is Indonesian, but due to the sizeable Chinese population, Chinese languages including Teochew, Hokkien and Mandarin are also spoken.

Miniature of Indonesia

Batam is one of the most unique island in Indonesia. You can find many ethnic in this island. All kinds of ethnic own different religion, language, and exactly culture. Although they are in ‘bhinneka’ (diversity) but still understand and tolerance each other. It is hardly to hear that one ethnic attack the other. Instead, they hand in hand to reach collective purpose, like keeping the housing cleanliness, and many local competition to grow togetherness among them. No wonder Batam purely safe right now. This condition really makes Batam growing rapidly. The following are several tribes who inhabit The Scorpion Island (Batam).

Malay is one of Batam pioneer. Many people says that this tribe came here in 1813. They opened a new village which was called Patam. Then, this name may became the nickname of this island ‘Batam’.

Another is Bataknese. Many people of this tribe came to Batam in 1970s. They derives from one of Indonesia province North Sumatera specially Tapanuli. There are so many Bataknese in Batam like, Piayu, Batu Aji, and Bengkong.

This tribe comes from West Sumatera which still one Indonesia province too. You may call them Padangnese. They have ‘nasi Padang’, it is very famous culinary all over Indonesia.

Then, there is Javanese. They come from Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta. They have many kinds of delicious culinary. Like, ayam penyet, pecel lele, gudeg, and many more.

The fifth is Sundanese which comes from West Java. They have also many special culinary like Javanese . There are several Sunda restaurants in Batam like, Bandung Resto, Sawung, and many ‘rumah makan ala Sunda’.

The next one is Flores. They have a blacksweet skin. It is easy for you to find them in Batam. There are many of them who live in Kabil, Punggur and Dapur 12. They come from Flores island in Nusa Tenggara.

Bugis and Makassar are two tribes from Sulawesi island specially South Sulawesi province. There are many people also say that Bugis was included as a pioneer tribe who inhabited Batam for the first time. They are a courageous tribe who could cross the sea by their special ship.

Except all above, there are the other tribes like, Acehnese from Aceh Sumatera, Palembang from South Sumatera province, Banjar and Dayak from Borneo island, and Moluccas from Maluku.[end]

DO YOU KNOW ?? kawasan Nagoya newton, sakura garden dLL pokoknya kawasan bisnis nagoya , di luar dari jalan protokol... tidak akan ditemukan traffic light tau bundaran pengatur alur lalu-lintas di persimpangan...

so... kalo udah peak hours gitu jadinya. paling kesadaran masing2 aja memberi jalan bagi orang lain ...

salah satu dari sekian banyak dealer mobil bekas di nagoya. kebanyakan sih katanya second S'PORE

rumah makan dibatam konsepnya kayak2 street food di negara2 maju

... Cuma!! kursinya plastik gitu, trus mulainya sore aja, soalnya panas kali kalo siang

finally... nyampe DC MALL (Mall Besar pertama di batam sebelum munculnya MEGA, BCS, & NH DLL...) Pusat Busana Muslim, komputer second S'pore dll ...
