Today Andy Grote head of the district office Hamburg-Center gave finally some details about the most important urban projekt in Hamburg "Jumping the Elbe River"

German Thread

Quote:
"We gonna repair the damage of Operation Gomorrah - 11.000 Flats for Hamburgs southeast
(in German)
http://www.mobil.abendblatt.de/hambu...-umgebaut.html

Background: Hamburg currently renemberes the 70 Years aniversary of 1943, 25th July, Operation Gomorrah.
I am not going to spam this threat with bombing-war stuff, because the only thing I would earn is "But the Germans did this and that in the first place" so I give only a short sumarise, because the backgorund is important for this urban projekt:

During Operation Gomorrah in five days the entire city went up in flames, leaving 42.600 dead (mostly ended up as walking human torches) 125.000 injured and 900.000 homeless.

Todays district boarders of "Hamburg-Mitte/Hamburg Central" - one of seven districts in Hamburg covers some quarters which was worst hit be the firestorm like the living Quarter Hammerbrook. Bevore the war 60.000 people lived there, today 1.843.

With 11.000 new homes for 30.000 people the damage of the war and wrong city planning after the war is finally about to get fixes :apllause:

in numbers (a.o.) (confirmed masterplans)
5.000 flats for Wilhemsburg
2900 homes for the easten HafenCity
Hammerbrook 2.000
Rothenburgsort 600
Veddel 500.

Andy Grote, my hero

With this final approve of the outlines of the "Jumping the Elbe River" areas, consinsting of the HafenCity, Elbe Bridges Center, IBA-areas, Veddel Market, DykePark, Northern Wilhemsburg development area, IGS-areas, Canal-Harburg and the areas of the civilian Harbour redevelopment areas south of the HafenCity (Grasbrook and Overseacenter), a total city developent area of roughy 1.000 hectares is about to get filled with stuff

Andy Grote, my hero

All those extensions of the harbour (the C's in your map), do you know how much that will increase the capacity of the harbour compared to today? Are they even going for no 2 in Europe?

I was going to report about the harbour plans in Detail: So let's do it now:

Harbour Masterplan 2025.
Red "Cs" on the overview map in the opening comment

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...65&postcount=1

The full plan is downloadable in english:
http://www.hafen-hamburg.de/sites/de...5_englisch.pdf
And to answer the question of capacy: This grafic shows it:

for Terminal Walterhof "C1": From 4 Millon TEU/Year to 6 Million (+2Million).
Compleated as planned in 2018

Terminal Altenwerder "C4": No numbers for TEU found. 3,7ha new
Terminal Area and 1 place for large cargo Ships

Terminal Tollerort "C2". Like Walterhof + 2 Million TEU/Year
The Northern part is already U/C. The southern parts are rented by the terminal operator

The new central Terminal "C3". I did not find a TEU/Year capacy.
The Terminal is made for ships of the 18.000TEU-class. 125hectares of new container Terminals
are up to build here (BTW: that will be a fantastic touristical place, because the Köhlbrandbridge in the south is walkable to this point.

A smaller projekt is the 4 hectares extention of the general cargo "C5"

.............

industrial, trade and commerce stuff which has to be demolsihed for the new terminals will find a new home at the D-marked areas D3-Arondation Peute and D5 Altenwerder West...

Furthermore New Railway conections for the New terminals are U/C and Planned...

Of course new roads are planned and U/C as well

Key road projects are the Kattwyk Bridge "B1"

and the Rethe Bridge "B2"

Recently compleated was a Harbour-Roud traffic guide system

And last, but not least. If the capacity of the Harbour is still not enough in 2025, this area will be transformed into Harbour-area

.....................

meanwhile, also in the harbour area and recently compleated. The
Energy-Hill
in Obergeorgswerder. A former toxic waste landfill now supplies 4.000 Homes with green energy and offers a free observation-walk.
I should visit it as soon as I can ...

Good news from St.Pauli

I already lost my hope, but finally the "New Entertainment Center" at Spielbudenplatz is finally confirmed
to get build under a new Name
"Klubhaus St.Pauli"
(And even better: A German projekt name instead of one of those wannabee World City Projekt names in English,
that make no sense, we have seen too many in Germanys big 3 cities. I am so damned tired to tell british and american
tourists that they don't get dildos in our "Backshops").

THx

However I missed one point for the Terminal Waltershof "C1"

Two new Lightouses are needed for that Terminal. One will be the highest in Europe (100 Meter)
