American cities and towns named after other cities/towns outside the US

In Tennessee

-Memphis
-Milan
-Dover
-Manchester
-Paris
-Lebanon
-Lafayette
-Monterey
-Athens
-Bristol
-Carthage

These are cities and towns with substantial populations, there are more communities and bumps in the roads that are named after other places.

There are thousands of towns and cities in the US named after others. For Minnesota alone, it would be a list hundreds of names long.

In Texas alone there are probably thousands of towns which are named after places outside the US.

Here are cities in Ohio that have substantial population.I'm really not sure if some of the cities are named after their counterpart but I would assume that the majority would be.

Toledo
Lima
Dublin
Versailles
New Bremen
Parma
Athens
Avon
Bowling Green
Cambridge
East Liverpool
Dover
London
Macedonia
Russia
Canton
Ontario
Toronto
Poland
Troy
Oxford
Kent
Minster(after Munster,Germany)
Lebanon
Holland
Berlin
Geneva
Milan
Ravenna

This is off the top of my head so I'm sure I'm missing alot. I also included names of countries but I felt they were relevant.

For some of the larger cities, New York was named after York, England. New Orleans was named after Orleans, France. Birmingham, Alabama after Birmingham, UK. Boston, MA, Boston, UK. The list would go on for a very long time. Might be easier to name the cities that were not named after somewhere else.

Basically every municipality in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut without a Narraganset, Massasoit or Wampanoag name has an older counterpart in England.

A large number of towns in upstate New York were named after classical Roman or Greek places or people:

Rome
Utica
Syracuse
Troy
Carthage
Ithaca
Manlius
Cicero
Virgil
Ovid
Homer
Pompey
Marcellus
etc.

That they built a pyramid in Memphis, Tennessee is not a coincidence.

They both look shockingly similar. Neither are beautiful though unfortunately
