Yet another old building destined to meet its fate as a pile of rubble! I am guessing that in the scale of the proposed development, the footprint of the pub would be relatively miniscule? So would it not be too difficult for it to be incorporated into the development?

Not knowing the plans for the site but knowing where the pub is, I guess it could be in the way of possible road widening. If that is the case, the pub should be 'moved' to the side of the new road where it can continue to serve its existing customers and potential new customers from the new businesses that the area will attract.

Moving the pub may be drastic and more costly but I do get saddened that demolition is automatically pushed forward without considering any other options.

Not sure but wouldn't surprise me if its closed. Every time we go in there its dead and the beer is just awful.

Birmingham bar The Victoria listed in prestigious gastro-pub top 10
by Brett Gibbons, Birmingham MailAug 4 2012

A CITY centre bar has won a place in a prestigious list of the UK’s top ten gastro-pubs.

Shop for Vintage Fashion on Ebay
The Victoria, in Birmingham’s John Bright Street, was the only Midlands venue included in the list, published in lifestyle magazine ShortList.

The venue was praised for its nine different types of burger and Deep South-style Sunday roasts as well as its selection of real ales.

Matt Scriven, director of pub parent firm Bitters ‘n Twisted, said: “We are really pleased to be recognised.

“It’s great that the venue and kitchen have been acknowledged by a leading national magazine and our customers.”

It's been bought by the owners of Apres and Mechu. Not sure what the new place will be though.

Hope they judged the market right for their offering (£25.00 for the buffet) and they can fill the place, runs the entire length of the Cube

I believe it's a 250-320 cover restaurant!

£25 isn't bad for an open buffet really, most meals will cost around £20 per person

They probably got a cracking deal too. On the commercial side there are only three occupiers no doubt the Cube were desperate to get people in there.

I think they signed up the tennants at a half price compared to the expected going rate

It's only £10 for the open buffet between 12pm and 3:30pm midweek, should do well lunch times with office workers

Does anyone know when and why The Uplands pub was demolished in Handsworth?

Here's a link to the street view, but if you look at the recent satellite view its just flat surface now! Beautiful building that was too.

News from Business Desk , anyone know where Le Truc is going to be?

Chi Grill and Itihaas add new life to Birmingham’s restaurant scene

BIRMINGHAM’S credentials as a leading ‘gastro city’ have been enhanced with the news that three more eateries are to be launched.

Just days after Michelin starred chef Glynn Purnell announced he is launch his own branded bistro in Newhall Street, further down the same road Jagtar Dhaliwal has invested £70,000 in the refurbishment and opening of Chi Grill.

Originally launched as Chi Bar and Grill in November 2003, company director Dhaliwal has decided to refurbish and re-launch the new Chi Grill in a quest to fill what he sees as a gap in the market in the Colmore Business District area.

He is introducing a new Indian tapas style menu.

Dhaliwal said: “This is an exciting new venture for Chi Bar and Grill which we believe the Colmore area has been crying out for.”

Meanwhile, Indian restaurant Itihaas - also based in Newhall Street - is to open a second branch in Birmingham, at Selfridges in the Bullring.

Itihaas Brasserie is set to sets to offer Indian cuisine in a casual setting.

Managing director Raj Rana said, “Selfridges is regarded as one of the UK’s most prestigious shopping names. After being awarded the best restaurant on two occasions, it was a natural progression to align ourselves with such an iconic brand.”

The third launch is that of French bistro and bar Le Truc. It is to open in Birmingham’s Southside area later this month.
