It's going to be like what Element, Skypoint, Grand Central, etc all have. Since this sounds like it's going to be modeled after Element and Skypoint, it will have a pool and all that jazz above the parking levels. This is only for residents and their guests.

I think the same building as a hotel instead would have be ideal for the site. Throw in some restaurants/lounge and bar in the pool area at night and you have the new place to be in Tampa.

That said though, I liked how 12 was going to be a condo and hotel, that would have worked OK in this location if the condo market was not so bad right now. Steve

Btw... Something folks probably aren't realizing... This apartment building will be a good option for well heeled UT students, who will easily be able to walk/bike over to the campus. |

I've looked at several photos of DT and Straz on flickr and am still trying to imagine how this tower will look in the skyline. Seems like it will be somewhat isolated and could be the new dominate building of north downtown even if it's not as tall as Element.

Well heeled? You mean every spoiled silver spoon kid that goes to UT? I wouldn't be surprised if there were some UT kids renting at skypoint right now.

Having went to UT last year (my freshman year), you are correct in that guess. There is a large handful of kids that live in Skypoint, and even more in Element. This new project would with out any doubts attract a good chunk of UT kids.

Tampa Bay Times, specifically Sue Carlton, seem to be going down the NIMBY argument of "MY VIEWS! MY VIEWS! My precious views!" against this proposal. What building's view would this block again mainly? Oh yeah, the Times Building!

Drove around there today to try to see where it would be built. I should have parked and walked to it. From what I saw it would be very close to the river. If there is too much drama and politics (and there always is when a tall building is proposed in Tampa), then the devoloper can just build it somewhere else around there. There's plenty of available places in north DT.

Can we have this thread renamed to "art deco apartment tower next to Straz" or something else?

I wish there was a way we could look at the full 68 page proposal of this project.

Apparently if Sue Carlton is so opposed to building someting on a narrow river, someone should show her a picture of Chicago.

Looks like this project is a good candidates for the YiMBY sentiment the of Blueprint: more residents, better street grid, very little disagreement on here.
