4 New routes announced from BHX today.

3 of these are from British airline BMI Regional to Lyon, Gothenburg and Toulouse.

1 of these is from Ryanair to Perpignon.

All are currently not served from BHX so really good news for the airport.

New BMI Regional flights start in May 2013 and Ryanair start in April 2013.

Air France

Air France are planning to start making regular use of their 200 seat Airbus A321's to Birmingham
on their service from Paris CDG which is currently operated by a mix of Airbus A318/319/320's....

.... this follows the first visit of an Air France Air Airbus A321 to BHX on Friday 18 January 2013
with it helped with the catch up after an earlier closure of the airport due to snow

At present the first planned Air France 321 is scheduled for Friday 8 February 2013 when it
operates both the morning and lunchtime rotations on that day

Air France 321's then appear on selected days/flights through the rest of the winter schedule

Your video

Thanks so much. Sticky stuff but lovely contrasting light! I wondered if a sweep slightly under the Air Berlin track would give us a further understanding of the site. The earthmovers appeared to be emerging from quite a dip behind that I can't quite picture at present so next time you want to try out your kit perhaps we could see more of the entire site (?).

Thanks again.

Latest Runway News February 2013

Work has now commenced on the "removal" of the lower (closed) part of the
Long Stay Car Park which is currently higher than the level of the new Taxiway
that will be built on that area parallel to the Runway Extension.
the earth is being moved to the area between Taxiway Echo and Taxiway
Charlie and will ultimately be used as part of the project to "level" the airfield
when the whole Runway is resurfaced during winter 2013/14.
As a result Taxiway Echo will now be closed each weekday during daylight hours
between Echo One and Echo Two to allow the contractors to access this area.
when Runway 15 is in use as it was today it does not make much difference
to operations but when Runway 33 is in use departures will be via Taxiway Charlie
during these times with aircraft back tracking as required - special arrangements
will be made to allow wide bodied aircraft to use Taxiway Echo (with work suspended)

Summer 2013 Schedule Update

Birmingham Airport will be seeing several changes on scheduled services with lots more capacity and upgrades this Summer 2013! Think back to when Birmingham was just a regional jet airport with lots of Avro's/146's, CRJ's and ERJ-145s.... It's all about the A318/A319/A320/A321 now!

SAS. Scandinavian Airlines who finally withdraw (unfortunately) from service their ageing MD-81/82's from Birmingham, introduce their A321's onto the Copenhagen service. Along with the A321's, their new A320's will also be making regular appearances along with the usual CRJ-900's. Their Stockholm-Arlanda service will continue to operate with a mix of 737-600/700/800(W)'s with the -800's becoming a lot more frequent during the week!

Turkish Airlines increase their flights from 7 to 10 weekly from the 1st April with 2 flights operating every Monday, Thursday and Sunday. With mostly 737-800(W)'s operating their morning services, the afternoon flights will mostly become an A321 operation but with the usual mix of A320's and 737-800(W)'s.

From the 9th May, Lufthansa's Berlin-Tegal service will operate during the morning with most flights now upgraded from the A319 to the A320. Weekend services will now operate using a Dusseldorf based CRJ-900. Their Hamburg service will also move to a mid-morning schedule. Frankfurt flights will continue to be operated with a mix of 737-300/500's along with many A319/A320/A321's including their A320's with Sharklets!

Air France will continue to operate their Paris-CDG service with mostly A318's, during the Summer schedules, we should see many A319/A320 upgrades along with the A321.

Summer schedule changes

Nice to see the legacy carriers increasing capacity from BHX this summer. It's a big vote of confidence to the airport and region as a whole.
I have a question for anyone who might be able to help.Anyone have any idea if or when DLH will retire their 737 fleet? Some of these airframes are getting a little long in the tooth. Also some of the AFR A320s are getting on a bit as well.
I remember seeing some them @ ORY in the early 90s in Air Inter colours.
Ah them were the days!!!
