BHX-Athens now bookable on the Aegean Airlines website.

Good to see Athens on the BHX departure board for Summer 2014, another European capital city served from the Airport.

Great new route for BHX. I'd actually love to visit the city of Athens. Can only wish HAH had the ability to attract new routes to my local airport.

A pretty good day @ BHX today.
First in was the first FlyDubai 738 for MAEL.Then later some fog diversions from LHR.
A BAW 744 & 763,plus a PIA 777.
That's a bit more like it

Nice picture. Will the runway extension be accessible by one new taxi link at the end or will there be any other taxi links?

Also, I don't know BHX well but looking at the picture the airport looks fairly closed in, potentially limiting expansion at BHX, particularly with regards to terminal and apron expansion?

Thanks for the post, with regards extra taxiways, there is just one taxiway being built from the end of the extension, however once completed the whole runway will have i believe 5 exits, so plenty of ways to get off the runway.

Yes BHX is surrounded by everything, A golf course, A park, A housing Estate, A Exhibition/LG Arena. However BHX has revealed its future plans which take the expanded airport to the other side of the Exhibition centra with a huge new Taxiway which would have to go over the main Westcoast main line. This also includes a new runway. Will try and locate the details.

The existing terminal and runway will be for Domestic and Eurpoean flights and the new Terminal and Runway would be for Long Haul.

This btw is in the future and in UK standards, dont expect abything to be built until after HS2 to Birmingham has been built which would be around 2026.

The two terminals look to be a significant distance apart. It almost looks like two separate airports. Is this a viable option? Will airlines be happy for their aircraft to endure such a long taxi and burn so much fuel before take-off and after landing? The taxi here looks like it would be significantly longer even when compared to a congested Heathrow.

Maybe moving the entire airport to this new location would be a more piratical plan?

Good news that Air India will become a member of "Star Alliance"

BHX feels like a Star Alliance airport now, now we will have Air India, Aegean Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS, Swiss Air, United.

November 2013 Passengers Up 3.4%

Also great to see Long Haul routes from BHX seeing good increases. And Air India is looking good just after they launched in August 2013.

Air India saw 7108 which I make a load factor of approx 82%.

Islamabad 7835 up 14%.

Turkish 7708 up 23%.

Turkmenistan 4663 down 11%. (Thats due to Air India)

Dubai 42710 up 11%.

New York 7491 up 9.5%.

Thanks for the link.

If Biman Bangladesh Airlines touch down at BHX, it will be nice to see Dhaka on the departure board, together with New York JFK and nice to see another 777 grace our tarmac x4 per week.

Another new route and another new airline for Birmingham. BHX seems to be doing rather well at the moment.

One thing I've often wondered about BHX is what seems to be a lack of low cost budget airline flights. Is there a reason the management at BHX seem to have left this market to the likes of EMA?
