Yes for some "strange" reason BHX is one of the worlds most "expensive" airports to land a plane. I also think over the last few years it has put most of its attention on the Runway Extension and marketing the airport as a "Long Haul" alternative rather than a "Low Cost" alternative.

One thing I've often wondered about BHX is what seems to be a lack of low cost budget airline flights. Is there a reason the management at BHX seem to have left this market to the likes of EMA?

It is also rumoured that EK (Emirates) is to launch a Third Daily flight to DXB (Dubai) from late 2014 ?????

I'd find it extraordinary if Birmingham was anywhere near one of he worlds most expensive airports. Are you able to share the figures?

If Birmingham was indeed that expensive then I doubt it would have the easyJet and Ryanair flight it does have, not matter how little that may be and I also doubt leisure airlines including Monarch, Thomas Cook and Thomson would be operating from the airport.

This is an old report but dont think much has changed to be honest, will try and find a more upto date one.

FLYBE summer 2014 expansion at BHX

Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, has unveiled a major expansion of its operations at Birmingham Airport with the announcement of seven new routes that includes a six times a week service to Florence, in a first for the airport; daily flights to Cologne; a six times a week service to Toulouse; a five times a week service to Alicante and four times a week to Bordeaux, Palma Mallorca and Porto.

To support these ‘Magnificent Seven’ routes, Flybe is also adding three of its 2x2 seat Embraer 175 jets to the airport thereby creating its biggest ever regional base with 12 aircraft, thereby creating more than 50 new Flybe jobs.

The airline’s daily service to Florence, capital city of the Italian region of Tuscany and those to Toulouse and Porto in particular open up some important commercial regions for business travel but also are an attractive draw for leisure as well.

Seats are on sale now at www.flybe.com plus details of full schedule, with one way fares from £34.99 including taxes and charges. Travel is effective from 10th April, 2014 to Alicante, Cologne, Florence and Porto; and from 13th May for the remaining three routes (Bordeaux, Palma and Toulouse), the majority of flights utilising Flybe’s new 88-seat E175 jet aircraft.

The latest FlyDubai 738 arrived this morning just after 0630,for attention from MAEL.
Otherwise it has gone very quiet @BHX.Let's hope it is just the calm before the storm.

This airport, like a lot of British airports, needs another runway.
