Turkish Airlines

Lots of upgrades to the A321 on the BHX-Istanbul route in December and they are using a A330-300 on the route on the 19th December and possible the 21st December 2014.

I think this route will go double daily in 2014, at present it is 10 weekly.

Another great day of news for BHX.

2015 is going to be our best ever year, i can feel it in my bones.

Air India confirmed daily from 21 Dec 2014

Bookable now

Aegean ups capacity on its Birmingham-Athens route by starting from April to October, which was from May-October in 2014.

Also it is looking likely that Thomson will be basing a 787 all week from Summer 2015 and using it on some short haul routes in between its long haul operation at BHX.

Thomson Winter 2015/2016
Info thanks to Ray_Finkle from Forums4Airports

The Thomson website is showing another increase in long haul for 2015/16, Cancun stays at 2x weekly on Monday's and Thursday's, Montego Bay goes up to 2x weekly on Tuesday's and Wednesday's and Orlando remains at weekly on Sundays then switches to Barbados. With Friday and Saturday seeing the cruise flights there should be a 787 at BHX all week

Emirates 3rd daily from BHX

Strong rumour is that EK is to announce expansion from the UK in the next few weeks and a BHX-DXB 3RD daily is one of them. Fingers Crossed.

NORWEIGEN COMING TO BHX

Birmingham Airport and Europe’s third largest low-fare airline, Norwegian, have announced that flights will commence to Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga from Birmingham next summer.

Norwegian will offer regular services to the trio of Spanish routes, with Madrid becoming a brand new destination from Birmingham.

Madrid will commence on the 31st March and will operate each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Malaga will commence on the 30th March and will operate every Monday, Friday and Saturday, and Barcelona will start on the 1st June and fly each Monday and Friday.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport said, “We are very pleased to be able to announce this new airline and offer more new routes from Birmingham, and I thank Norwegian for choosing to launch Birmingham to these popular Spanish destinations.

“Although Norwegian is new to the Midlands market, I am certain that consumers – both business and leisure - will be impressed with the carrier’s low fares and efficient service, which has allowed them to grow to carry more than 20 million passengers a year. We are therefore very pleased to be welcoming Norwegian to Birmingham next summer.”

Norwegian will operate a 186 seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with a one service cabin and free wi-fi.

Chief Commercial Officer, Thomas Ramdahl of Norwegian, added, “We’re happy to announce that Norwegian is launching new routes from Birmingham to several destinations in Spain.

“We are looking forward to offering our low fares and award-winning service to travellers in the greater Birmingham area and welcoming them on board our brand new and more environmentally friendly fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft with free WiFi.”

Tickets are available through www.norwegian.com or through travel agents.

Norwegian employs approximately 4500 people and operates 416 routes to 126 destinations in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Thailand and the US.

November 2014

Busiest November on Record....

CAA provisional passenger totals are out for November 2014:

646,275 passenger (+10.1%)

Rolling year Nov 13 - Nov 14 9,648,057 (+6.3%)

Now with Turkish airlines upgrading many of there flights, Emirates up 7% in November, Air India Daily and extra flights from Flybe, i think 2014 is going to be the Busiest year on record. We will find out middle of January 2015.

Well i think alot of hard work has been done over at BHX since the summer and credit where credit is due.

We have had some bad news recently with cuts by Flybe (A british based airline) and below is a list of recent announcements including the excellent news from Emirates today.

Here to a great 2015, now all we need is China Southern to operate even more flights to Beijing next summer and that could be announced in the new year.

American Airlines - Daily flight to JFK starting May 8th, it's a year round service but will obviously see a reduction during the winter months.

Air India - An increase to daily 787 flights from 21st December adding circa 1500 seats per week.

Aegean Airlines – returning next summer to ATH, still at x2 weekly but now operating from the end of March.

Aer Lingus – up to x5 daily to Dublin on some days; also talk of them opening a route to Belfast. The pull out at Shannon means the route has gone, Ryanair rumoured to be looking at it.

Air Transat – still x1 weekly but the A330 does appear to operating for a longer period.

Air France - More flights are planned to be on an A320 rather than the A319/320 mix but anything from an A319 to an A321 is used depending on loads.

Lufthansa - Permanent upgrades from an A320 to an A321.

Flybe – Cologne, Florence, Palma, Alicante, Reykjavik, Ibiza, Knock, Waterford, Porto, Toulouse, Oslo and Hamburg all dropped. Hanover dropped from 2 to 1x daily. New weekly routes to Bastia and Biarritz. Amsterdam increased to 4x daily (5x daily on Thur % Sun) and Jersey to 3x daily.

Icelandair – new x2 weekly service to KEF from February. Extra flights already added for Oct 15 half term and the weeks either side.

Easyjet - Winter ski flights to Grenoble are to be on an A320 rather than the previously used A319. Geneva also sees more A320's used.

Emirates - Third daily 777-300 flight to Dubai starting 1st August. First Class to be offered for the first time.

Monarch– new winter flights to Salzburg and Turin. One less based aircraft next year with some routes gone, increases on others with 9 aircraft operating on certain days but the schedule doesn't look complete as yet.

Ryanair - One less based aircraft but alot more away based flights almost makes up the schedule with 2015 roughly 6 weekly flights down on 2014. Reus and Derry have gone but rumours Shannon may be announced soon.

SAS - The morning flight looks to be upgraded from a CRJ to an A319 and the evening flight upgraded from an A319 to an A320, A321's are used when loads are high.

Turkish Airlines - Increase to 12x weekly from June 23rd, double daily on 1,4,5,6,7.

Thomas Cook – new A321s will start to replace the ageing 757s over the winter; by the summer x3 A321s and x1 A320 will be based and new summer routes to Djerba, Kalamata and Lesbos launched. Some uncertainty over TCX's one long haul route to Banjul.

Thomson – Sal resumes from the start of November. Summer sees new routes to Agadir, Djerba and Porto Santo with rises on existing routes, there has been a couple of flights chopped but there are rumours of a 787 based for the summer doing some short haul flights which would make up the capacity. Cancun rises to 2x weekly for the summer and continues into the winter.

Vueling - New airline operating A320's to Barcelona starting off at 2x weekly in June rising to 5x weekly in August.

Norwegian Air Shuttle - New routes to Madrid 3x weekly, Barcelona 2x weekly and Malaga 3x weekly.

PIA - Having problems with a third of their fleet currently not flying, BHX is back up to 3x weekly 772/773 but still less than the 4x weekly for most of 2014.

Beijing - BHX are in talks about a repeat of the successful 2014 charters, hopefully 2015 will see an extended programme. TBC

And we have United Airliines offering daily flights to New York Newark and x4 weekly flights operated by Turkmenistan airlines to Ashkabad which offers convenient flights to Indiia.

Plus BHX has direct flights to Orlando Sandford, Montego Bay in Jamaica and Barbados, offered by Thomson airways on board B787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The UK is a funny little place with a massive international city called London with its massive international airport. However BIG is not to everyones taste and not everyone wants to travel from there. When British Airways stopped all "international" flights from other UK cities such as Birmingham a few years ago, i think it made people feel quite angry and made us think, if your not going to serve us we will go with an airline that does. Then Emirates came along and the rest is history.
They now sponsor Football Stadiums, Concert Arenas and other big attractions in the UK.
