American Airlines confirm the possibility of more destinations from BHX in the future

Quote:
Thomas also hinted that American Airlines could introduce more US flights to Birmingham based on the success of the JFK route.

"Our focus is to make sure JFK works. By flying there it will also give us a sense of where the demand is for other cities and where we might be able to service additional destinations," he said.

"There are also a lot of international connections we have to Canada and South America, so it'll be interesting to see what the demand. We will definitely look at opportunities to expand if the demand is there."

Mahan Air are also looking at a 2x weekly A340-300 service to Tehran as soon as the political situation allows.

Great to see American Airlines upbeat about BHX and Birmingham in particular. It appears they see BHX as a tourist airport alternative to London, similar to the chinese who will be flooding into the area this summer. This could bring great things to BHX in the future. And so it should, we have lots to offer, not just here in Birmingham but across our region.

All right... here's something that will really make you excited: a new airline planning to mount charter services from Beijing, China.

Hainan Airlines has laid out its initial plans for a summer charter service, operating nonstop between BHX and PEK. It will be operated 2x weekly, from 3 July to 28 August 2015, on board B767-300ER aircraft. Proposed schedule:

HU7950 BHX0930 – 0335+1PEK 767 15

Note that this flight is subject to government approval.

Oh yeah, we are all excited about this new service, a big increase on the number of similar flights that were operated by China Southern Airlines in 2014.
The BIG Question is however, will BHX be the next airport in the UK to have scheduled direct flights to China ahead of our competitors, i really hope so.

NORWEIGEN HAVE LANDED AT BHX

Norwegian, Europe’s third largest low-fare airline, has celebrated its inaugural flight to Madrid from Birmingham Airport, the first of three Spanish routes set to launch this summer.

The first scheduled service to the Spanish capital, which will operate each Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, was greeted into Birmingham with a water-arch salute on arrival and will be quickly followed by the launch of flights to Malaga on Monday 30th March.

The new service to Malaga will operate every Monday, Friday and Saturday and represents the second of three Spanish routes set to be served by Norwegian. The third and final service to Barcelona is set to commence on the 1st of June, flying each Monday and Friday.

This is really positive news for BHX, considering they are a brand new airline for just 2 months and are already increasing flights to BHX, apparently the connections to north america are very popular.

Daily flights soon then ?????

Emirates @ BHX

Emirates tips Birmingham Airport to have a strong decade as it launches new flight

Since the introduction of its first flight into the region in December 2000, Emirates has carried five million passengers between Dubai and Birmingham (including return), 30% of which travelled during the last three years.

The most popular onward destinations for Midlands based travellers on Emirates include Dubai, Australia, India, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates vice president, UK, said: “As a central location in the UK and key network for passengers and cargo, Birmingham is a vital regional hub for Emirates.

“Having recently surpassed a major milestone by celebrating five million passengers on the airline, Birmingham’s enthusiasm for both global travel and commerce has led to significant growth for our operation in the West Midlands.”

On a visit to the West Midlands, Berryman said: “Birmingham has proved to us that there is a long-haul market from here and that will continue to grow.

“I think Birmingham {Airport} will have a very strong decade. Nothing new will be built in the South East for at least ten years and and there’s no reason why Birmingham can’t get to 15m-20m passengers in that time.”

Commenting on the idea that the local airport should be re-named Birmingham Shakespeare to position it better in the minds of foreign tourists, Berryman said he thought it was “quite a good idea”.

He added: “We find that in-bound tourists only know one city and that’s London. Two, perhaps, if you count Edinburgh.

“There is lot of ignorance in the rest of the world about anything in the UK outside London.”

Meanwhile, the airline has also announced that its freight operation Emirates SkyCargo, which began its operation in the region in 2005, has been a success, recording a growth of 223% over ten years.

In 2014 alone, 13m kgs of cargo was carried in and out of Birmingham.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Jaguar Land Rover - which has a distribution base in Dubai - is the airline’s’ largest customer for this service.
