BHX on a roll at the minuite, another capital city served direct.

If we continue like this we will go from 10 million to 11 million passengers in 1 year, this would be some achievement for an airport like BHX.

Next rumour is to be Emirates A380 upgrade on one of there x 3 daily flights to Dubai and Westjet of Canada may also be interested in coming to BHX.

Let the good times continue.

According to an article on "routes online",Beijing Capital Airlines have applied to serve BHX from both Beijing and Hangzhou.
Using A330 aircraft there would be 2 flights each week, whether that means both cities per flight or 1 flight to each destination is not clear. However flights could start in April 2016.
The airline is part of the HNA group so it looks looks like the parties involved in the last 2 years series of flights are keen to expand the service, becoming an all year scheduled service eventually.

Birmingham Airport Urges Immediate Government Action To Make Best Use Of Existing Long-Haul Capacity

Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, has today urged the Government to put forward a strategy for making best use of existing airport capacity, in the wake of the Government’s delay on a new South East runway.

The Government has spent the past five months reviewing the conclusions of the Airports Commission, after the Commission itself spent three years looking into the future of UK aviation. The Government has now announced that it will not be making a final decision until summer 2016, rather than late 2015 as originally planned. On 1 July, the Airports Commission, led by Sir Howard Davies, recommended that the Heathrow northwest third runway scheme be taken forward.

Birmingham Airport has argued for a strategic network of long-haul airports throughout the UK, each supporting the comparative economic advantage of that region, rather than all focus being on a hub airport.

Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport said in reaction:

“The UK needs a proper aviation strategy if we are going to succeed in plugging every region into global business opportunities. We have said throughout the Airports Commission process that the review was failing to consider the whole UK economy, the changes that HS2 will bring, or any policies for making best use of existing capacity in the 10 to 15 years it will take to build a new South East runway.

“This fresh delay is making a new South East runway look more distant than ever. It is therefore vital that the Government comes forward with plans to support the UK’s network of long-haul airports now, to relieve pressure on the congested South East.

“The Midlands is a powerful engine of growth at the heart of our country and needs direct aviation to succeed. With our £300 million investment in the Airport, including our runway extension allowing for this summer’s extended series of direct flights to Beijing, we look forward to continuing to expand our long-haul offering in support of the region’s economy”.

Over the course of the past three and half years, Birmingham Airport has presented the Airports Commission and Government with evidence of the role that new road and rail investment, HS2 and changes to taxation can play in making best use of existing UK runway capacity, as an alternative to Heathrow expansion.

Independent research published in October 2015 found that cutting Air Passenger Duty by 100% at Birmingham Airport would attract 2.9 million additional passengers, delivering £521 million more per year and 12,000 new jobs across the UK. The reform would also enable Birmingham Airport to clawback demand that is currently putting pressure on South East airports.

The report also found that HS2 can help attract 750,000 additional passengers to Birmingham Airport per year by enlarging its catchment area to London and the north. This will enable the Airport to deliver £52 million more per year and 1,300 new jobs across the UK.

November 2015 Passengers Up again

Birmingham Airport has celebrated another month of record breaking passenger figures with November revealing 7.1% growth year-on-year.

Figures show a total of 693,033 passengers travelled through the Midlands gateway last month with long-haul growth being particularly significant up by 21.4% compared to the same month last year.

These latest passenger numbers mean the airport is celebrating ten record breaking months of growth this year.

EMIRATES A380 COMING TO BHX

Emirates has announced that it will be upgrading its EK39/40 service between Dubai and Birmingham to an Airbus A380 from 27th March 2016.

This will be the first time the iconic and much loved A380 will fly a regular service from the region, and comes as Emirates celebrates its 15th anniversary at Birmingham Airport.

It isn't the first time this aircraft has been to the Midlands based airport, in September 2009 it was flown in to be part of Birmingham Airport's 70th anniversary celebrations and for the opening of the International Pier.

This time it will be much more of a permanent feature as Emirates will be replacing the current Boeing 777 to a two-class Airbus A380 on the lunchtime service into Birmingham, carrying 557 passengers in Economy Class and 58 in Business Class. Birmingham will be the fifth route operating the new two-class A380 since it was unveiled at the Dubai Airshow in November 2015 by Emirates. The upgrade will increase daily capacity to and from the region by 15%, and means Emirates will now offer 77 A380 flights into the UK each week, more than any other country on the Emirates network.

Emirates first launched its route to Birmingham Airport on 18 December 2000 as a daily service to Dubai, operated by a 278-seat Airbus A330. As passenger numbers have risen, Emirates has added more aircraft to the route, including a third daily service introduced this year. In the last 15 years, Emirates has carried over five million passengers between Dubai and Birmingham, with over 500,000 travelling in 2015 so far.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Vice President, UK, said: “In 15 years of operating at Birmingham, Emirates has experienced exceptional levels of growth driven by an increase in demand from the Midlands. The A380 is hugely popular amongst our passengers as it provides a unique level of service that has become synonymous with the Emirates brand. We are very excited to be the first airline to introduce the iconic A380 into the region and look forward to more of our customers enjoying the experience of flying on the world’s largest passenger aircraft.

“The launch of the new service, combined with our ongoing investment into the region, represents the huge significance we place on Birmingham and its role as a gateway to Dubai and across the globe. As we move into 2016, we look forward to another 15 successful years in the Midlands.”

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, said: “This is really great news for the Airport and our community. The A380 will not only give an additional 188 seats a day from Birmingham but will also offer customers that want to experience the magnificent A380 aircraft an opportunity to now do so from the Midlands region and I’m certain that the service, just like the programme spanning 15 years from Birmingham Airport, will be hugely successful. We would like thank Emirates for its commitment to our region and congratulate the team on serving Birmingham to Dubai and beyond for 15 very fruitful years.”

Emirates’ wider contribution to the Midlands economy has grown alongside its expansion at Birmingham Airport, connecting local people and businesses to global destinations and markets. It now employs 31 permanent staff at the airport, with the Emirates SkyCargo team employing a further four people. Over five million meals have been made locally in Birmingham to serve Emirates passengers travelling to Dubai and up to 60 crew members stay at local hotels in Birmingham every night between flights. The airline also invested over £1 million in the Emirates Lounge at Birmingham Airport, which opened in October 2012.

Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has helped regional businesses export products to destinations all over the world. Over the last 15 years, Emirates SkyCargo operations at Birmingham Airport have grown significantly, with volumes up 15% year-on-year in 2014–15, accounting for 60% of the air cargo market in the Midlands.

Passengers flying from the Midlands with Emirates can travel to Dubai and beyond, to an ever expanding global network, including Bali, Multan and Mashhad which all launched in 2015. Popular destinations on the Emirates network from Birmingham include Dubai, Islamabad, Bangkok, Mumbai and Hong Kong. To book a seat on the iconic aircraft visit www.emirates.com

As with all Emirates flights, passengers enjoy the extra generous Emirates baggage allowance of 30kg in Economy Class, 40kg in Business Class and 50kg in First Class (only available on the Boeing 777 service). Business Class and First Class passengers can also enjoy Emirates’ complimentary Chauffeur-drive service, to and from their flights, and access the world-class Emirates lounge at Birmingham Airport. The lounge is also available for Skywards Gold and Platinum members

A VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS FOR ALL AT BHX

Monarch Expansion S16

Monarch today has announced its summer 2016 schedule from Birmingham Airport which includes new direct flights to Madrid and Lisbon.

The extended schedule also includes additional frequencies to many of the airline’s most popular destinations from Birmingham with flights at sociable times, allowing customers to escape for a weekend or a longer break to some of Europe’s most popular leisure destinations.

Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon, is a year round popular destination. Steeped in history and contemporary culture Lisbon is a city that will interest all ages. As well as the culture, it has beautiful beaches lining the silver coast so with its mild winters and long summers Portugal’s capital is a destination that appeals to all types of holiday makers.

Madrid is a lively, cosmopolitan city with fantastic food and wine. The Spanish capital has plenty to offer with museums, art galleries and a vibrant night life. Tasty tapas bars line the streets neighbouring the rich historical landmarks the city has to offer.

The schedule also features one additional weekly flight from Birmingham Airport to Lanzarote, Alicante, Rome, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria for summer 2016. Malaga, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife will see two more weekly flights.

Marjan Schoeke, Monarch’s Head of Network Development said: “We continuously refine and develop our network strategy looking closely at where and at what time our customers want to fly. We are delighted to announce that for Summer 2016 a ninth aircraft will be based at Birmingham allowing us to introduce two new destinations - Lisbon and Madrid – and many additional frequencies to some of our most popular destinations.”

William Pearson, Aviation Development Director, said: “This growth demonstrates that Monarch is committed to serving the Midlands and we are particularly pleased that Lisbon - a new route for us - will start next year. Having a ninth aircraft based at Birmingham from next summer will create approximately one hundred thousand extra departing seats a year, which is great news for our region.”

Happy new year to all!!

With all the new flights and destinations, possibly more to be announced,2016 will undoubtedly be the busiest year ever at BHX.
I think 11.5 million give or take the odd 100,00 is definitely in sight,if not this year then by summer next year.
Let's hope all the new flights get some success and let's keep the ball rolling.
