Im not too bothered about a 2nd runway, just look at Gatwick and Dublin to see what can be achieved with just 1 runway but BHX definatley needs a BIG new terminal and quick.

Monarch Airlines

Monarch Airlines goes into Administration.

Monarch Airlines has ceased trading and all of its future bookings have been cancelled, the Civil Aviation Authority has said.
Around 110,000 customers are currently overseas and the government has asked the CAA to charter more than 30 aircraft to bring them back to the UK.
Monarch is the UK's fifth biggest airline and the country's largest ever to go into administration.
Customers due to fly from the UK have been told not to go to the airport.
Monarch had been in last-ditch talks with the CAA about renewing its licence to sell package holidays.
It had until midnight on Sunday to reach a deal with the aviation authority but failed to do so.

This is truly awful news for BHX and the thousands of people who work for them

Big blow to Birmingham. Half the 3000 jobs, or more, were there. I would think few of the outbound seats will be replaced until the summer season.

Not just BHX, but Gatwick/Manchester/Luton and Leeds.

It has left a great big hole in the airports network, a very sad day indeed

The scale of that hole is shown here.

http://www.anna.aero/2017/07/04/monarch-airlines-adds-five-new-destinations/

Other airlines are likely to fill only part of it and to increase their prices, especially to Spain in summer 18. I'd see very few winter routes being added all the same. Perhaps a few to Malaga and thats all.

Big expansion from Jet2

Aircraft based goes from 4 to 8 in S18 and they have re-instated some of the lost Monarch routes including Venice and Dubrovnik

New flights to Toronto from BHX

Primera Air Announces Direct Flights From Birmingham Airport To Toronto
24th October 2017

Primera Air announces the opening of another North America destination from its new base in Birmingham. Toronto (YYZ) will be served three times per week on a year-round basis.

“Yet again, we are very proud to announce our new direct routes from our European bases to Canada. Toronto will be a great addition to our earlier announced New York (EWR) and Boston routes from Birmingham.

“With our brand new Airbus321NEOs airplanes, we are opening routes previously traditionally served only by wide-body aircrafts. With unmatched efficiency of these new-generation aircraft, we will be able to offer unprecedented prices to our passengers from the UK. At the same time, we are very proud to be offering a low-fare/high quality product and service concept, that will be perfect both for leisure and business travelers,” says Andri M. Ingolfsson, the President and Chairman of Primera Air.

Aircraft will provide two classes of cabin - full-service Premium and low-fare Economy, Wi-Fi and opportunity for all passengers to charge their devices on board.

Services from Canada will commence in May 2018 and will be year-round operations. Primera Air to Toronto (YYZ) will offer three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from. Tickets are available on sale and the lowest fares, starting from £149.00 (one way, all taxes included) can be booked at www.primeraair.com

Daily flights to New York and four weekly flights to Boston to Birmingham were announced earlier this summer.

William Pearson, Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “It is welcome news that Primera Air is expanding its choice of popular Transatlantic destinations from Birmingham by adding a new route of Toronto. Having only announced two routes to Boston and New York in July of this year this shows the demand that Primera Air is seeing from the Midlands.

“Demand for travel to US and Canadian destinations from the West Midlands is high and Primera Air is offering fantastic seat prices meaning it is likely Toronto will be very popular. We recommend passengers book ahead to avoid disappointment as we expect seats will sell quickly.”

For the next two years Primera Air will increase its presence on the existing bases and open other trans-Atlantic routes, as well as open new bases, as the airlines has 20 new Boeing Max9-ER on order.

Primera Air is scheduled operator, operating flights to more than 70 airports in Europe. Primera Air is based in Denmark and Latvia, and is part of the Primera Travel Group that operates travel agencies and tour operating companies in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Estonia.

The bad news however is that Canadian airline Air Transat have quit BHX in response to the Primera Air announcement. Oh well they had there chance and they kept BHX hanging on and hanging on with there 1 x weekly summer only flight. You cant blame BHX management looking elsewhere and with this new deal the airport gets year round flights also.

Bye Bye Air Transat

TUI W18/19

BHX has a new flight to Malaysia.

Langkawi is every two weeks from Dec 19th until March 14th.

Dep Wed 13:35, arr Thur 17:00

GOA goes weekly, this winter is was every 2 weeks.

We retain Barbados, Cancun and Montego Bay.

Bad news (There is always bad news) it looks like we have lost Phuket.
