MAN | Manchester Airport
Never realised Manchester did not have its own thread here.
Overview: -MAN is the 3rd largest airport in the UK by passenger volume. It handled 19,467,014 year to date up to June 2012. -Manchester has 3 terminals and 2 runways, serving 52 airlines to over 180 destinations. -It serves the city of Manchester, the majority of the North west, North Wales, Yorkshire and the Northern edge of Birmingham and its environs. It currently has a 77.5% share in the North west passenger market, shared with Liverpool and Blackpool. -The airport is Cat10 fire covered, enabling A380 and B747-800 operations, to which Emirates uses the A380 on one of its 3 daily DXB flights. -The ILS is CatIII, making it a regular feature in diversions during bad weather in the UK. Wythenshawe Hospital is only 5 minutes away with a specialist heart unit, so airlines crossing the Atlantic who have a suspected heart attack/cardiac arrest will usually divert to MAN. -Maintenance facilities include Thomas cook, who look after the TCX and Condor fleet, as well as 3rd party work. Air Livery have a facility here, catering to aircraft up to A340-600 size, to which Virgin Atlantic is the most regular customer. Lastly, Monarch have a hangar, which is B787 goldcare standard, and will play host to the LOT Polish and Thomson fleet once they are delivered. -Emirates and Etihad also have their European call centres in/near the airport (with the latter making MAN its Euro ops HQ), whilst BA citiflier has its HQ in Didsbury, near the airport. Airlines at Manchester: Hub: Flybe Bases: Jet2, Easyjet, Monarch, Ryanair, Thomas Cook and Virgin Atlantic Airlines with more than 1 destination: British Airways, Lufthansa, American Airlines, United, Tunisair, Germanwings, SAS, Norwegian, bmi, Aer Lingus, Singapore Airlines, PIA and Air Transat. Other long haul: US Airways, Delta, Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Cargo Carriers: Cathay Pacific, TNT, Fedex, Korean Airlines and Kalitta. Upcoming new routes: Ryanair to Warsaw Modlin Jet2 to Zakynthos British Airways to Aarhus and Gothenburg Monarch to Munich, Grenoble, Innsbruk, Friedrichshafen Norwegian to Stockholm Germanwings to Stuttgart TNT to Stansted and Leige. |

Easyjet have added MAN-KEF to their schedule.
Flights will be 2 weekly, Sun and Thu, from Feb 14th 2013. Along with Icelandair, MAN-KEF is now reachable 5 days a week. ----------- Air Canada are to announce MAN-YYZ, 6 weekly from may 1st 2013. Flights will be on a B767-300 in a 'leisure' format. ----------- JAL are highly tipped to be launching MAN-Tokyo. This is due to the new joint venture with BA, which will share all profits made on Europe-Japan flights, in a similar agreement to American Airlines. JAL have spent the week at MAN, and the vibes are as good as when MAN-JFK on AA was initially discussed. ----------- Norwegian are to announce a 4 weekly MAN-HEL, to compliment their MAN-OSL and MAN-ARN flights. Due to start in 2013. |

Easyjet has given out the times for the new Manchester-Moscow (Domodedovo) route:
Sundays & Wednesdays: EZY1871 MAN 0740 DME 1435 EZY1872 DME 1515 MAN 1625 Mondays & Thursdays: EZY1873 MAN 1340 DME 2035 EZY1874 DME 2115 MAN 2225 Flights begin 28th March on A320 ---------------------------- With the 8th based aircraft, Easyjet have also upped the frequency on Geneva (9 weekly in summer now with the addition of a Sunday flight), Malta (now 6 weekly with the addition of a Tuesday flight), Skiathos (now 2 weekly and not even launched yet) and Paphos (now daily). ------------------------------ Air Livery now has the Lufthansa widebody painting contract, as the LH Technik facility in Hamburg has changed its role from painting to VIP aircraft conversions. Manchester was chosen due to the Air Livery team's expertise, and the abundance of Lufthansa flights to the bases of Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf, which means crews can be re-positioned quickly. The first B747-400 arrives Sunday 16th. Last edited by world_rep; December 12th, 2012 at 08:37 PM. |
