"Manchester Airport records busiest July in its 77-year history"...
Quote:
More than 2.5m passengers travelled through last month, a 6.1 per cent rise on last year

Manchester Airport is still on a record-breaking roll - after recording the busiest July in its 77-year history.

Airport bosses say the wet weather here combined with extra seats to Europe, USA and the Middle East are behind the booming figures.

With more than 2.5m passengers travelling through last month, it marks a 6.1 per cent rise on last year.

It takes the annual rolling total to 22,620,304 for the country’s third biggest hub.

Thanks in part to footballers heading home on leave before the new Premier League Season, private jet usage is also up 11 per cent

The major clubs in the area all flew from Manchester on private flights for their pre-season tours.

Other boosts are in scheduled international flights, up 8.7 per cent on the same period last year - with charter traffic increased by three per cent compared to last July.

New flights and extra seats on USA flights have helped the boom

Ken O’Toole, Manchester Airport’s managing director, said: “The wet weather in July combined with additional capacity we have this summer across Europe and long-haul to destinations in the USA, Hong Kong and to the Middle East has given Manchester Airport a fantastic boost and we are well on track for our best and busiest summer ever.

“With more than 22m people living within our two hour catchment, two full length runways and all-time record passenger numbers, [B]Manchester Airport has, and will continue to have, the available capacity and demand to meet the needs of our catchment that extends as far north as Scotland and South to the Midlands.[/B

"Third super jumbo anyone? Emirates say they are 'looking all the time' to add another A380 to Manchester routes"..

Emirates choose fifth anniversary of first touchdown to reveal Manchester could soon be hosting three super jumbos

Third super jumbo anyone? Emirates say they are 'looking all the time' to add another A380 to Manchester routes

Bosses at Emirates say plans are in the pipeline to bring a third A380 to Manchester Airport.

The world’s largest passenger jet first landed at Manchester five years ago - and its popularity keeps on growing.

Now Laurie Berryman, Emirates vice-president for the UK, says they hope to make the most of that with a super jumbo hat-trick.

It was in February that the airline, set to celebrate 25 years at Manchester in November, launched its second daily flight to Dubai on the A380.

It means that of the three daily services, two are now on the super jumbo while the morning flight is on a Boeing 777.

It’s that evening flight that could be upgraded.

Manchester is already the only airport outside London to host the A380.

Mr Berryman told the M.E.N: “I couldn’t put a time scale on it but I’m sure our planning people are looking all the time to put a third A380 on that service.”

If Manchester does get a third, it will join Gatwick, while Heathrow currently has five a day

He added: “The A380 is so popular, when we brought in the second one we saw great growth.

“The minute tickets go on sale we see a 20 per cent increase because people want to fly on the A380.

“Manchester is vital - the catchment area is so large.”

And the boss can’t rule out an even BIGGER plane in the future.

He added: “Airbus will move forward, I think they will modernise the A380 - and whether it gets bigger in the future is anybody’s guess.”

That Emirates is considering a third jumbo jet is a sign of the operator’s success in the city, also home to its £5m contact centre at Manchester Business Park launched in June.

Mr Berryman added: “In the last decade we’ve more than doubled the through-put and Manchester. We just keep on

growing and Manchester is a huge opportunity for us as more and more people chose to fly long-haul.

Manchester has gone from strength to strength over the last decade.”

The business to leisure traveller split for Emirates in Manchester is 30 to 70 - with the most popular destinations Dubai and then onward flights to Australia and Thailand.

The second A380 launched in February replaced the outbound service EK019 which departs Dubai at 2.35pm and arrives in Manchester at 6.35pm.

The return flight EK020 leaves Manchester at 8.25pm, landing in Dubai at 7.40am the following day.

That replacement marked a daily passenger boost of more than 300 - or 13 per cent. Premium cabins got a 20 per cent boost.

The A380 features the world’s only onboard Shower Spas for First Class Passengers and there is a lounge where First Class and Business Class passengers can network at 40,000 ft[/QUOTE]

"World Duty Free opens flagship store at Manchester Airport"...

Quote:
World Duty Free Group (WDFG) and airport operator Manchester Airport Group (MAG) have officially opened the newly renovated duty-free walkthrough store in Terminal 2 (T2) at Manchester Airport in the UK.

The 19,235ft² Biza Tax & Duty Free retail outlet has been split into six different sections comprising liquor, beauty products, luxury goods, tobacco, confectionary/food and souvenirs.

One of the newest features of the Biza duty free store is its Destination Tasting bar near the front of the 2,280ft² liquor area. As well as providing liquor samples for customers, the bar also incorporates digital screens to promote advertising campaigns from liquor companies such as Absolut, Haig, Smirnoff, Baileys, Havana Club and Ciroc. The liquor area also includes a new World of Whiskies ‘shop within a shop’.

Eugenio Andrades, CEO of WDFG, said, “Today’s opening marks another step in our journey with MAG to bring a compelling shopping experience to millions of passengers. The strong focus on developing an offer specifically matched to the passenger profile is central to the close working relationship we have with MAG and is executed with style here in Manchester Airport’s T2.”

Ken O’Toole, managing director of Manchester Airport, said, “At Manchester Airport we pride ourselves on continually improving the experience for the 22.75m annual passengers that travel through our terminals. This new Biza store transforms the shopping experience and I’m sure it will prove hugely popular with passengers traveling from T2.”

Fred Creighton, chief operating officer, UK and Northern Europe for WDFG, said, “We’re delighted with what we’ve achieved in Manchester. By working closely with the airport and our brand partners we have used a trinity approach to develop a store that ranges some of the world’s most desired brands under one roof to delight even the most discerning customer

"Austrian Airlines launches new ManchesterAirport service"...

Quote:
Manchester Airport has expanded its offering after signing a deal with European carrier Austrian Airlines for a new service to Vienna.

Austrian Airlines, which is a subsidiary of Europe’s biggest airline Lufthansa, will deliver a new daily service from Manchester to the Austrian capital with its Fokker 70/100 aircraft.

Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s regional director for the UK, said: “Over the last few years Vienna became the number one onward connection destination for Lufthansa passengers departing from Manchester so it was logical for us to offer direct flights.

“This not only reduces the travelling time for the passengers but will also increase the number of seats available for other passengers wanting to access the Lufthansa network through our hubs at Frankfurt and Munich.“

Fares for the Vienna service will be offered under Lufthansa Group’s new price concept for European flights, in which Economy fares are categorised as ‘Light’, ‘Classic’ and ‘Flex’.

Manchester Airport’s commercial director, Stephen Turner, said: "I’m delighted to welcome Austrian Airlines to Manchester Airport. Vienna is a popular business and leisure destination for the 22m people within the airport’s catchment area.

“This new service will provide our passengers with additional choice for those looking to visit the city as well as the opportunity to connect onto Austrian’s extensive route network."

Austrian Airlines already operates 28 flights to London Heathrow every week

MAN-Bratislava / Brussels Announced...

"Ryanair to launch new connections from Bratislava to Brussels, Manchester"

Quote:
BRATISLAVA, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Low-cost airline Ryanair is adding more air connections on route from Bratislava to Brussels and new connections to Manchester in next year's flight schedule, the airline's representatives announced on Wednesday.

Ryanair flights will go Bratislava-Brussels six times a week.

"It's also in light of the fact that Slovakia is to hold the EU presidency in the second half of 2016," explained Ryanair operations manager Mick Hickey, who says the connection to Manchester three times a week is to replace the current connection to Liverpool.

As well, Ryanair announced the Bratislava-Berlin line in March this year and it is scheduled to launch on Oct. 27 and will fly return every day of the week.

In total, next year there will be 78 departures to 18 destinations a week, and the estimated number of passengers is 1.2 million a year.
