There's also this nauseating piece in the FTabout the 23 million passenger mark with one analyst making a serious bid at being the most stupid person working in the aviation industry:

"David Bentley, an analyst at the centre (CAPA), said Manchester’s growth was below its peers. 'There just isn’t the volume of first class business travellers. We will know it is really working when British Airways comes back,” he said.'

Puttiing the EDI/GLA growth related in the FT article in perspective...
6 million more passengers in the last 5 years. I've a slight dispute with those figures...

The figures for those airports in 2010 and the 12 month rolling total to Sept 2015

GLA: 6.52 million => 8.51 million. UP 1.99 million (30.5% growth)
EDI: 8.59 million => 10.88 million. UP 2.29 million (26.66% growth)
MAN: 17.66 million => 22.85 million. UP 5.19 million (29.39% growth)

So combined "Central Scotland" was 2.55 million passengers behind MAN in 2010. Now they are 3.46 million behind.

Manchester has grown very strongly, Scottish airports have been affected by:

1. Their greater reliance on INBOUND tourism and a strong £ militating against that.
2. Oil Industry traffic dropping hugely, both inbound and outbound.

and

3. What about Prestwick?, that place has tanked completely over the exact same time period and should be included with the other 2 lowlands airports for accurate comparison.

Other than in or ex Heathrow first class traffic is a complete distraction and what is important is Business and Leisure travellers...same as Scotland AND Stansted and Gatwick too.

First Class is not the same as Business.

It should be noted that (provisionally) 23,086,829 used MAN in 2015, up from 21,989,682 in 2014.

This is a new record for a calendar year 22,422,855 was recorded in 2006.

This growth is against a relatively flat increase in seat growth, indicating higher load factors. There is a reasonably significant amount of seat growth in 2016 and, with a fair wind, should pass 25 million PAX in late 2016 if current trends continue. Figures from January 2016 seem positive and the rolling annual total is 23.3m.

You should apologise to David Bentley. Dublin is growing at 17% meaning 29m pax will use it in 2016 if that rate is sustained.

Do you really thing DUB is going to get 4 million more passengers this year? If so, please list all the new/expanded routes that will allow that to happen. Or do some people have an amoeba for a brain and ignore having LPL, LBA, DSA and BHX within easy reach of MAN so reducing potential for larger increases at MAN?

In the meantime....

I don't, I think it will get 2m to 2.5m more pax this year and finish 2016 somewhere north of 27m.

Where DUB and MAN need to synergise with each other is on US vs Asia routes, let MAN develop the Eastbound routes while DUB develops the Atlantic routes.

Trying to develop the self same routes is pointless in the main, barring EU routes.

How's the status of the Cathay Pacific flights between Hong Kong and Manchester UK?

Do you think it's possible that there can be daily flights? (from the existing Monday Tuesday Thursday Saturday flight schedule)
