true the current building is a decent filler, wish they had a dross-only policy on redevelopment, but good news otherwise

Wow and I thought we would never see any more talls proposed until at least the end of the decade! Happy days.. plus also some positive news about the cities economy! Its not all doom and gloom as we are lead to believe! Cant wait to follow this ones progress.

Great news!
The current building is nothing particularly special, especially if we're going to get a nice shiny new skyscraper. EDIT: Wrong building in picture. Last edited by danm; July 13th, 2012 at 12:10 AM. |

Again, that's not the right building, but the one that is going is similar.

It's going to block Willis from the plaza.

Would be nice to retain the facade. I know it isn't the greatest going in the area but it'd be a shame to lose every low rise frontage to skyscrapers.

Glad to learn that the site is on the corner of Lime Street and Leadenhall, and is not 40 Limestreet. The buildings on the site are good quality, and work well with the streetscape, but are not outstanding.

What would be welcome is a building that's not another glass steel affair. I know it won't be, it this mixture of glass and stone in the area which makes the city special. Loosing this building, while some say is nothing special erodes yet another reminder of the old city of London. I would Like to see a tower that is perhaps a mixture of materials. It's going to otherwise become a canyon of dark glass and silver paint.

I think that will be pretty amazing when you think that church isn't going anywhere.

Yes, a little too tall- its drawn here about as high as 122L's 48th floor, so maybe 1/5th smaller... plus its going to have to be a very striking design to assuage the EH sightline brigade - what with the reason for 122L being slanted being given as the avoidance of sightline interference..
.. maybe this is the best thing that 20FS has achieved so far? As has been said, makes a lot more sense now!

Ok this one is probably going to be more accurate height wise.
![]() It now looks about level in height with 30 St Mary Axe which is 41 stories. There is a bit of persective to deal with as well. Just for comparison, Tower 42 has 47 stories, and is only 2 meters higher than the Gherkin. 20 Fenchurch Street has 36 stories, but has that high roof garden on top which makes it taller than it would otherwise be. We should be looking at a building between 170 and 180 meters. Though a crown of some sort might drag that up a little. The plot also looks narrow from that angle, so from an east or West elevation it should be quite slender. More so than from a north or south Elevation, though the plot is not particularly big in any direction. We should see somthing quite slender proposed. |
