Pakistani American Among Top Ten US Cops

NCPA

WASHINGTON: Oct 31 - Out of 23,000 police officers in the United States, ten were proud award recipients in 2003, one amongst them being a Pakistani-American, Police Officer Muzaffar Siddiqi of the Houston Police Department.
The ten top cops received the top Law Enforcement Awards at a ceremony held at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
“Officer Siddiqi represents both what’s good about America and how the Muslim and Asian communities are enriching our lives as Americans,” said Faiz Rehman, President of the National Council of Pakistani Americans (NCPA). Calling him a role model for the immigrant communities, Mr. Rehman said, “In a very short period of time, Officer Siddiqi through sheer hard work and good work ethics has made a name for himself at the national level.”
The Top Law Enforcement Award in the country is given in recognition of exceptional police work.
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and Parade Magazine have selected Officer Muzaffar Siddiqi from nominations submitted nationwide for recognition in their 2003 Police Officer of the year program. The police officer of the year award symbolizes the highest level of achievement among police officers in the country.

IACP is the world’s oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives, with over 19,000 members in over 89 different countries. IACP’S leadership consists of the operating chief executives of international, federal, State, and local Law Enforcement agencies of all cadres.

Bashir lured to US by $1m deal
By Tariq Tahir, Evening Standard

Broadcaster Martin Bashir has been lured to the United States by a $1 million deal, it emerged today.

The 41-year-old, who made his name through controversial interviews with the Princess of Wales and Michael Jackson, is to leave ITV for the ABC network.

He will take over from veteran current affairs presenter Barbara Walters, who is retiring from ABC's long-running weekly news show 20/20.

Bashir will leave Granada when his contract expires in July and is expected to fill her role doing confessionalinterviews with high-profile public figures.

His Living With Michael Jackson - an edition of the Tonight show - was named programme of the year at the Royal Television Society's journalism awards on Tuesday.

In it the singer admitted sharing a bed with children at his Neverland ranch - a confession that prompted California prosecutors to investigate allegations of abuse against him. He has since been charged with molesting a 12-year-old boy he was seen holding hands with in the film.

But the programme, which attracted 14 million viewers in Britain and 27 million in the U.S, was dogged by controversy after Jackson claimed Mr Bashir induced him into making comments that were taken out of context.

The singer later released his own video footage of the interview in which Mr Bashir appeared to win his confidence by telling him how impressed he was with the love Jackson has for his children.

Jackson has since called the allegations of child molesting "a big lie," saying he did not share a bed with the boy. He faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Jackson has also launched a legal action against Mr Bashir, claiming he was betrayed by the portrayal of him in the programme.

During Mr Bashir's 1995 interview with Diana for the BBC's Panorama, the Princess famously revealed "there were three people in this marriage" - a reference to her husband Prince Charles's relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles.

That programme has also come under fire, with the Duchess of York last year claiming Mr Bashir duped her former sisterinlaw into giving the intimate answers she did.

Mr Bashir has worked for Tonight since it started in 1999.

Last year his Millionaire - A Major Fraud about the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire cheat Major Charles Ingram - was seen by 15 million people, the biggest audience for a factual programme since 1997.

Pakistani scientist rejects money, UK nationality: "Man of Year award" verdict today

LAHORE, Feb 11: Prof Dr Aurangzeb Hafi, a Pakistani scientist contesting for the prestigious international title "Man of the Year 2003 in Interdisciplinary Sciences" has rejected the "unofficial" offer that he accept British citizenship to be a winner.

He also turned down the offer of two million pounds sterling (or Rs210 million) for providing the original manuscript of his magnetosectorial model, on the basis of which he has joined the race, saying the invention was a trust of his country which he would not like to barter for personal gains.

The offer was made by the London-based International Scientific Council on Tuesday, only hours before the jury -- the council itself -- was due to sit in judgment on who should be decorated.

Dr Hafi was told that he should approach the British High Commission in Islamabad and get nationality within half an hour. However, the contestant for the award rejected the bait on the plea that he is a Pakistani and would like to win or lose the race in the same capacity.

The International Scientific Council is reluctant to honour a Pakistani, arguing that Islamabad is not a member of the Commonwealth. A Pakistani citizen, Jalil Khurshid, moved the relevant authorities in London on Tuesday and got the verdict stayed for two days.

Jalil reportedly said that the reservations expressed by the jury could be answered legally and thus he should be given time to prepare the case. The request was granted and now the name of the winner would be announced on Thursday (today).

Dr Hafi made a breakthrough in the modern scientific research by developing the magneto sectorial model for the first time in the world. His research would vivid far-looking and long lasting effects on agriculture, environmental and medical sciences, space biology, magnetohydrodynamics and multi-disciplinary sciences

Dr Aurangzeb Hafi is one of the six scientists shortlisted out of 1,376 from 900 universities in 60 countries by the International Scientific Council, headquartered in Britain.

The shortlisted contestants in addition to Prof Dr Hafi are; Prof Dr J.A. Walker, Dr I.J. Richards (UK), Prof Dr Okada (Japan), Dr J.F. Larson (Denmark) and Dr S. Nevelli (India).

Dr Hafi thinks that scientific research should not be judged on the basis of political considerations and inventors should be encouraged irrespective of their nationality.

Pakistanis use global ties to make inroads on used cars
The Asahi Shimbun
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The surge to 300 billion in annual sales is just the start.

Selling used cars abroad, once a minor business, has become a 300 billion yen a year industry-and the driving force behind more than half the deals are Pakistani dealers living in Japan.

The booming niche business is led by entrepreneurs with global connections. The secret to their success? Small profits and quick returns. Arrangements are easily made via cellphone, and hardworking dealers do not shy away from even the tiniest of business transactions.

Their Japanese counterparts are feeling the crunch. ``There is no profit,'' says one dejected Japanese used-car exporter in Yokohama. ``I want to quit.''

Until five years ago, the man exported about 100 cars a month. Now, he scrapes by on about 10 transactions a month. He once raked in 100,000 yen to 200,000 yen per car. His profit margin is now slashed by half. He believes his business is suffering from the effects of the wave of Pakistani dealers who he says will export anything-even if there's as little as 10,000 yen to be made.

There are now more than 800 used-car exporting businesses-and over half are Pakistani owned, industry sources say. There were several dozen Pakistani businesses about a decade ago.

A 42-year-old Pakistani used-car exporter, based in Saitama Prefecture, is one such success story.

With a crew of three Japanese and Pakistani employees, he sells about 200 million yen in used vehicles annually.

When he set up his company seven years ago, about 40 of his fellow countrymen were doing business in the area. Now there are more than 300.

He says a worldwide network of Pakistani entrepreneurs contributed to the rise in dealers from his home country.

Another dealer agrees.

``I trade with 20 countries around the world,'' he says. He does business with compatriots in nations such as the United Arab Emirates, Iraq and South America from his trusty cellphone, he says.

According to the Finance Ministry, 720,000 used cars were shipped abroad in 2003, a 50-percent increase in five years. The average price per car was 500,000 yen. The export market pales before the 7 trillion yen domestic used-car market. But it's growing.

``Pakistanis are versatile in languages and have good marketing acumen,'' says Hiroki Fukamachi, a senior researcher at the Institute of Developing Economies at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). ``Their business is just starting to take off.''

JETRO researchers note the network of 50 million Pakistanis around the world, and shipping cars through virtually duty-free Dubai in the Middle East, have given the entrepreneurs in Japan leverage. But it has not all been smooth going.

According to Saitama prefectural police, three Japanese men allegedly belonging to a political group disrupted a used-car auction sale in Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture, on Feb. 28. The men drove onto the site in sound trucks blaring, ``No illegal parking.'' They also uttered ethnic and racial epithets and fired air rifles into the air. Offended foreign pedestrians threw stones and kicked the vehicles. It was not the first time the trucks appeared.

``As foreigners living in Japan start establishing themselves, they begin to specialize in a specific field, promoting a level of independence,'' says Yasuo Kuwahara, former president of Dokkyo University and professor of labor economics. ``There will be plenty of scenarios in the future in which Japan's level of tolerance will be tested.''(IHT/Asahi: April 6,2004) (04/06)

Pak scientist makes breakthrough in fertiliser technology
Friday April 16, 2004 (1754 PST)

FAISALABAD, April 17 (Online): A soil fertility and plant nutrition expert Dr. Muhammad Yaseen of Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad has invented Narali and Micropower that can significantly increase crop yield.

Development of fertiliser technology for sustainable agricultural production being the focus of his research, Dr. Yaseen has utilised the concept of calcium carbide to invent Narali, a nitrification inhibitor and potent source of ethylene for improving the crop yield.

Micropower is a major breakthrough that improves the crop yield by providing micro nutrients to cuticle layer of plants through spray. The organic components act as appetizer and enhances plants’ capability to utilize the fertilizer and micro nutrients properly, he added.

Dr. Yaseen told the Online that during the last four years the new technology has been used by the progressive farmers Javed Raza Gardezi (Kahnewal), Dr. Muhammad Safdar (Jaranwala) and the United Cooperative Farms Faisalabad run by M. Shahid.

“The results obtained so for reveal increase in yield from 15 to 25 %. It is also a bio- stimulant that helps to generate antibiotics in plants to produce resistance against unfavourable environment,” he added.

University of Agricultural, Faisalabad, has recommended Dr. Yaseen’s name for the Izaz-e-Fazilat Award, 2004 for making breakthrough in fertiliser technology.

Dr. Yaseen did his Ph. D. in soil sciences (plant nutrition) from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Besides contribution of more than 100 research papers, he is working as reviewer/referee for some national journals. He has also been honoured as a principle investigator for a calcium carbide technology project by ALP-PARC.

The Master of Bio-Magnetism
Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi

The Master of Bio-Magnetism

The world is progressing fast. The introduction of new technologies and ideas is the essence of getting synergy in the universal development process. This is particularly true for developing nations who have lagged behind in the latest technology process. In this scenario Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi is a glittering star who not only gave a new theory and model to this world but also gave rise to Pakistan on the top of this globe of technology.

Bio-magnetism is a branch of science that deals with the effect of magnetic field on living and non-living things.

Scientist from all over the world i.e. NASA, USSR and leading European countries worked on it from last 2-3 decades but no one exactly find out the positive results. Finally a brilliant Pakistani scientist Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi solve this mystery and gave his own theory of Bio-magnetism named as "Aurangzeb Hafi's Model of Sectorial Biomegnetics ".

Interview by Pakissan Team at the residence of Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi

Q1. What is the basic Theory of “Model of Sectorial Bio-magnetic”

Ans. On the way of scientific evaluation, the concepts of utilizations and interconnections of different phenomena’s, things and disciplines are seemed to be being continuously changed day by day. Numerous disciplines overlap the others to form and shape ' a new science'.

Bio-magnetics--a newly developed science is also a result of the overlapping of two sciences i.e. Biology and Magnetism (Physics). It deals with the scientific study of the biological effects of magnetic fields.

In past, water was only used for (pun chakee), then moving to Boilers, after that man got electricity from it. Same as for air in past history, man just thinking that it is only used for breathing and most of the people could not imagine at that time that air can be used for transferring data, text and pics etc.

Similar in case of magnet, it’s only used to attract the iron (past), and then China used it in Compass.

Recently we are talking about the effects of Magnetic Field on living organism in relevance with growth. At the right time one, who is talking about this phenomena looking funny that magnetism can effect the growth of living organisms by enhancing growth, reducing cost of production, reducing use of pesticide and fertilizers by increasing viability of seed.

Q2. Is any one from all over The World get success in this Field of Bio-magnetism?

Ans: No one in this world can solve the above mention theory The NASA as well as The USSR Scientists, It is only a young and energetic research scholar of Pakistan who solved this mystery and gave his Model Magneto-Agricultural Development Model and Sectorial Magnetic Model' & also called as "Aurangzeb Hafi's Model of Sectorial Biomegnetics".

Q3. How long you worked on this Model?

Ans: Dr. Hafi told us that he is working on this theory since 1990’s and finally in 2002 he got the results of his dreams.

Q4. How this model can boost the Agriculture of Pakistan and its Economy?

Ans: By replying this question he said that through this Model we can reduce the cost of production and get benefits up to 40 - 60 % by reducing or even no use of fertilizers and pesticides and better results can be obtained even in barren lands. Seed production by using this technique are viable and resistant to disease and drought conditions.

Q5. Can the model particularly be implemented in the Pakistani Environment?

Ans: It is a perfect model which can be used in any environment and atmospheric conditions. It is equally and easily use on perfect soils as well as on hilly areas and barren lands. This model can be easily handled.

Q6 Can the model be in easy access by a common farmer?

Ans: Yes! Even a common farmer can purchase the required equipments easily. As for its handling, it is the most trouble-free technology and one can effortlessly operate it. It is modified in such a way that it can be put into practice at any place simply.

Q7. In which way it works?

Ans: To answer this question he replied; this tecnology actually works in two directions or fields

1. Seed Production
2. Treated water

For seed production the idea can be easily implemented on any place of farm, it needs a very small place according to the farm area and requirements. These seeds are disease resistant, drought tolerant, less need of fertilization.

As far as the second one i.e. Treated Water one can be confused by this; it means that you implant this tecnology on tube-well or even on irrigation channels very easily, so, water pass through this machine and thus treated water have supremacy to contribute much more as compare to normal irrigation water (which also contain clay and diseases along with it) to fill up the channels and to destroy the crops up to some extent. So this treated water has more power to boost up the crop growth and reduce the cause of diseases as spread by irrigated water.

Q8. What expectations you have from the Government of Pakistan with regards to the implementation of your Model for the improvement of Agri. Production?

Ans: Dr. Hafi told us that he is expecting much more from the Govt. Of Pakistan, and being a true Pakistani he thinks that first right of this model is to use it in Pakistan, and then rest of the world. And it is the Pakistan who is sole in this branch of science that is Bio-magnetism and by this we can’t only boost up our agriculture production also we can earn and give a stand to our economy in a way to provide consultancy and products (products of Model).

As he thinks that if he becomes something and invents new technology it’s just because of Pakistan. Its only the well wishes of Muslims and his people that he get success in the field of Bio-magnetism.

He also said that if any one from Pakistan either the Government or Private sector wants to collaborate with him he is ready to do work with them.

He told us that he is still waiting from any good response from the Govt. of Pakistan so that he would start his work for the welfare of agri-community of Pakistan and once it would be the strongest in all over the world.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan : May 03 (PNS) - The scientists of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission have introduced a new test for diagnosis of intestinal ulcer. The new research has revealed that the main cause of intestinal ulcer in most of the people is Helicobacter Faulicuri virus.

The doctors trace the presence of this virus through endoscopy or taking the sample of patient’s blood and breath. This test is useful both for the doctors and patients in which the ulcer can be diagnosed in a few minutes with the help of latest machinery. The discovery of the new diagnostic test will help revitalize medical research in the country.
