There are 15 entrances into the seating area through 3 tiers of walkarounds. The side you're looking at actually has the least number of entrances. The two long sides have 4 entrances a piece, and the obscured side has 5. There are actually no obscured view seats, if you'll believe it, I've checked every one. I deleted any rows behind the commentary box that had obscured views. The first row of the commentary box, at a 5' tall person's eye level, sees the entirety of the court, plus about a meter. The entirety of the top row sees the entire court plus at least 2-3 meters at the ends.

Heres a view from behind the commentary box, first row:

And a glimpse at what the outside effect at night will be:

Its worth pointing out that in tennis matches the players are often stood and hitting balls from outside the lines of the court.. I dunno, I think it might just about be okay
it doesn't seem to be the commentary box obstructing this view but more so the railing of the bottom tier.
I really like the design though

I agree to a large extent that it does somewhat "obstruct" in many cases the view. I'm contemplating changing most of the railings to glass to help this, which would also go with the theme of the outside of the stadium as well.

As far as the design, thanks. I really wanted to go with a design that reflected the colorfulness of the culture of rio, and stood out against the landscape.

Is anyone else having trouble finding a suitable location within 5 miles of the center of the city that doesn't involve booting out innocent people or leveling a horrendously shaped terrain?

YES!!! Tokyo is possibly the worst city in the world for this.
There is a park in the city which I will build it on, seems a better option than knocking down buildings. I cant afford any more penalties :/

It's impossible in Rio. The city is built on hilly terrain, and on each of those hills is a massive slum that encompasses almost the whole hill. There are no plots of land in the commerce center, either.

I know you obviously know Rio a lot better than me, but I have a couple of places which look like they could be built on.

This place is on a hill, I know, but it's close to the city and you could incorperate the hill into the design (Have the main stadium at the top then tiered courts going down).

The other place, on the island by the city with the university. A big open space here by the waterfront, and it's flat.

Also, I found this:

Tokyo's bid included $26 million to transform the existing Odaiba Marine Park into a spectator venue for both open-water swimming and the triathalon. The park is on Tokyo Bay. The entire Tokyo layout had 95% of the events taking place within an 5-mile radius, making it the most compact games in history.

DAMN!!! Just found an excellent location for my tennis complex, then realised the Ariake Tennis Forest Park is right next door. Tbh, they would use that in the olympics, so i have to find somewhere better which isnt that close.

Still seriously considering moving to a whole new country :/

Option 1 - Flip on Google Earth and look at the terrain. It's on the side of a huge hill, and has slums leading all the way up the incline on the side.

Option 2 - That land is entirely the property of the University.

Trust me, I've exhausted most possibilities. If the Brazilian government was involved, they would probably just demolish a slum or two, but I can't make that call, lol.

You have to get the land from somewhere! I did notice that first site was on a hill but i didnt know specificly how steep and if it was too steep. And couldnt you buy some of the land off the university, or build it under their name (The "University of Brazil" Olympic Centre) for them.
Remember you have to make these descisions, I like realism as much as anyone but you must make the call for this because you cant ask anyone in real life! Remember, these are just plans. The govement make the descisions you want them to make.
I know from geography that Barra is quite a nice place just outside Rio. How far is that from the city centre and maybe its worth taking a deduction. I have finally picked a site about 6 miles from the city centre, ill take the penalties.

Help Needed! Does anyone know how I can get japanese lettering into my model? If you copy it into the 3D text window, it just becomes a series of rectangles. Does anyone know how I can do this???

You could look for a font online which is japanese, download it onto you're computer and you should be able to use it within the 3D text box.

Its ok, I sorted it a while ago. Simple solution acctualy, just use either Microsoft Jhenghai or Gungsuh fonts and it works.

Yea. I disappeared. And then I returned.

Basically my laptops broken and has been for a few weeks. I've been checking this and the stadium design thread regularly on my phone, I've just never bothered to log in til now coz I'm lazy. Sorry if I've ignored peoples questions, which I think I might have in the other thread :s from what I've seen of peoples designs, they've all been really impressive. I would hate for your work to go to waste kaz so I could extend the deadline a few days if that would be any use? If not, just submit what you've got done so far? Ok, it probably won't win but it will still be nice to see it and the ideas you had
