Nice shots of the City Hall/Brooklyn Bridge Area. I see that you visited a lot of the areas in Lower Manhattan. Most tourists don't spend much time down there. Where you able to walk the Brooklyn Bridge? What was your experience with riding the subway 'cause I assume that was your mode of transportation throughout your trip. It's always interesting to see tourists with their subway map trying to navigate the subway

thanks bro.....I went to Brooklyn Bridge and it's a nice place to take photos from.About the subway, I just rode it twice, going down to City Hall/Brooklyn from East 59th and to Battery park 2 days after that for the Liberty/Ellis trip. It's a little complicated for me 'cause (1)there are several trains for different destinations using a same track, (2)there are express trains that don't stop to all the stations as it's an express train, and (3) like in Financial District, there is a specific subway entrance to get to a particular destination. Another thing is, I check the web site and says that you can buy a day's pass but in reality, the subway employes don't sell this...I don't know why. The train stations are seemingly the same as they were first constructed (I'm guessing). It's a good thing though as there's a feeling you're on a time warp but the train cars are absolutely new models I should say. If ever I'll come to NYC again, I'll be a backpacker, commute from the airport to maybe East Village/West/SOHO/Greenwich areas for a hotel and I would to explore these areas as well as other places like Harlem, Bronx and Brooklyn. What do you suggest? |

Yes, those are must visits as well esp East Village and SOHO/Tribeca. But don't believe there's nothing to see outside of Manhattan. If you venture off to the other borroughs, there are plenty of wonderful neighborhoods. I can only speak of Queens or Brooklyn though. For Brooklyn, try the trendy and hip Williamsburg (you might even spot celebrities, Park Slope, Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach (NYC's little Russia) and even Coney Island (if you're into gritty, old NYC). Queens, you can try Astoria, or Long Island City - both that are just opposite the East River from Manhattan and have largely gone into prominence for up and coming neighborhoods.

@Sarcasticity -thanks for that..I will probably return to NYC to really feel the "life' that it offers..One thing I'd notice though, that I don't see any free city maps on some tourism kiosks, I relied on my limited knowledge acquired from googling and sadly I was a little dissatisfied I was not able to really delve deeper into the Chinatown/Little Iltaly/West Village/Soho and Greenwich Village sections. @DaveF12- if you have the time and the resource, why not? it's definitely worth it. @600West218 thanks for that feedback I'll do that next time and I know it will come out cheaper. Thanks all for your interest and |I hope you keep on posting any comments and feedbacks.

In relation to this, there was a man, perhaps a literature instructor, reciting a poem to his (perhaps) students in front of the statue of the Scottish poet Robert Burns in the Central Park. Thanks too @ Student4life for your comment. Feel free to check on this thread - I have still a thousand photos to upload. I like this - it's courteous of the city council (or whatever name it is known by) to provide clear information on what is going on to its citizens.
I have "been" to New York twice... well sort of! Once going past it on the highway going from Maine to Maryland and once changing airports, via taxi. I got a very brief view, one day I will definitely give it the time it deserves to visit properly. I think there is no other city that can compare in terms of classic pre-WWII skyscrapers. Perhaps only Chicago, to an extent. |

I like those trivial but interesting shots like those padlocks and plastic materials tied somewhere in the Brooklyn bridge. |

Those locks are left behind by tourists, usually couples. They put on the lock and throw the keys in the river symbolically. The Department of Transportation finds them nuisances that they take them off but I guess tourist still do them anyways
