I'm always happy to learn about other parts of the continent
I too think that Mississauga lacks character, but I want to draw attention to what it is trying to pursue.

There's a great deal about Mississauga that I don't like, but it's definitely moving in the right direction.
The Absolute condos is just one sign of their new emphasis on design. The master plan doesn't go as far as I'd like, but they plan to fix many of the planning mistakes that were made. Narrower streets, a more pedestrian friendly core, more trees, and more sophisticated design are all on their way. There are also many areas of Mississauga that fly under the radar like Mississauga Road and Port Credit. All most people see is Square One and these barren wind swept highways. In 20 years, Mississauga is going to surprise a few people.

Nice updates!
Mississauga is sure to become a vavavoom in a few years! My new hometown (gonna be a TA in UTSG) [next year] doesn't fail to impress me. Last edited by girlicious_likeme; June 1st, 2010 at 05:29 AM. |

6/10 I like the direction the city is headed, though there's not really a downtown. It would be nice if the city amalgamated with Toronto and became sort of to downtown Toronto what Brooklyn is to Manhattan.

Mississauga has it's own government, but it's really just a Toronto suburb that grew to the point that they're now attempting to build a real city centre. The plan is to have mini-downtowns throughout the GTA: North York, Scarborough, Markham, Mississauga, Vaughn, Brampton, in addition to the main one in Toronto's core.
Brooklyn? Manhattan? Toronto is Toronto and will plot it's own course.

That's part of the skyline around the Humber River where it empties into Lake Ontario. It's still a part of Toronto:image hosted on flickr
