So overrated. If Toronto were in China it'd be lucky to get 6th place behind Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chongqing. I don't know why people rank it so high.

i like toronto, i think the skyline is well organized, only chinese skylines i like is shanghai and hong kong, but the others have way to many highrise buildings all over and not a centralized focal point... but this is all opinion

I agree completely, except I put Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Kuala Lumpur slightly ahead of Toronto as well.

The data suggest that there are 4 Chinese cities with a bigger skyline than Toronto: Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. Toronto is larger than the other two you mentioned.

If you only take size into consideration, there are lots of skylines that are over rated: Singapore, Chicago, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Toronto, Seattle, etc. This is a 'best' rating though.

Architecture, balance, quality, layering, organization, beauty, etc. all come into play and are more subjective. These other smaller skylines score well in these areas. Many Chinese skylines do not.

So, is your list a 'biggest' ranking then? Where would you put Toronto?

Somewhere in the top 25 (probably around 20 actually). It has the architecture and the quality for sure. The skyline is hard to photograph, and the designs are somewhat boring and boxy. It has the lakefront setting but that certainly doesn't help when the other cities are Chicago, Hong Kong, Shanghai (other cities with waterscapes). It's beautiful surely but outside of CN Tower lacks iconic status. Vancouver probably has a better skyline if it weren't for a lack of height and a plethora of residential over corporate. But even in North America Toronto would be behind New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Houston and would be even with Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Miami. Even though it's size is interesting, it just doesn't elicit any emotion out of me (better than a negative reaction surely) but to give it 6th or 7th seems wayyyyyyy too nice

I do like the skylines of San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Minneapolis a lot, but they're really all midgets by comparison. I've never been fond of Houston, Dallas, or Miami but they all have quite small skylines as well.

I agree that the proportion of residential vs. office does work against Toronto, but I'm not sure how it doesn't crack a top 10. I suppose we all have skylines we like and ones we don't.

First of all, according to SSP, it is currently the fastest developing skyline in the world with over 300 buildings in the planning stages, which is over twice as much as second place, New York, with 150. Secondly, a near megatall OB stretching above an extremely balanced sea of skyscrapers, several being 800-1000+ feet is extremely iconic, and aesthetically pleasing. Lastly, each building has a unique design, although rather "bland," it keeps things interesting with shape and color changes, unlike the 10+ tower mega housing projects in Asia. Toronto is in the top 4 skylines to watch in the next decade along with New York, Shenzhen, and Mumbai.
